MORE POWER.
1993 BRONCO 5.8 E4OD
I AM BEGINNING THE QUEST FOR MORE POWER.
PLANS ARE TO UPGRADE TO MASS AIR CONVERSION.
I HAVE PURCHASED THE FORD RACING KIT WITH 30 LB INJECTORS 80MM MASS AIR AND UPGRADED COMPUTER.
(FORD TECH SAID LIGHTNING KIT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS WITH E4OD AUTOMATIC.)
ALSO USING STAINLESS SHORTY HEADERS , GT40 INTAKE, AND THROTTLE BODY FROM 93 F150 LIGHTNING.
I AM STILL IN THE PROCESS OF SELECTING CAMSHAFT (ROLLER CONVERSION OR NOT) AND CYLINDER HEADS.
I WILL BE CHANGING TO OFF ROAD EXHAUST NON CATALYST.
QUESTION IS HAS ANYONE ELSE DONE SIMILAR MODS AND WHAT TYPE OF HEADACHES ARE INVOLVED?
ANY ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED.
I AM STILL DRIVING MY TRUCK AND DON'T NEED ANOTHER GARAGE FIXTURE.

Headers for sure. get a nice set like JBAs or edelbrock or bassini. stick with a single 3" exhaust to . you know 30lb injectors might be to much for that i would go no bigger then 24's. only reason for going that large would be if your using forced air like a sc or turbo or stroking that motor to say a 408 .
check out this site www.fordfuelinjection.com lots of info there.
sounds like a good plan to me. edelbrock heads or AFR 185's would rock on that setup, especially with the MAF conversion. i've been thinking on that same conversion for my 94, so let me know how it works out for you. i've heard horror stories and have pretty much decided to mod my speed-density setup, but i still would appreciate knowing how it goes for you. oh yeah, JBA for the headers, single 3" coming out (like Kem said), and you might want to stay moderate on the cam so it doesn't turn into an overly expensive project. wait, you're buying heads...what am i saying...?

Ford mass air meter and computer that came with mass air conversion kit is calibrated for 30 lb injectors. The 30 lb injectors came with the mass air conversion as well.
thanks for the input

Are JBA Edelbrock or Bassani headers better than the ford lightning shorty headers I already have?

I am looking for a cam with lots of low end (any suggestions appreciated) . These trucks are pretty heavy. I'm tired of getting blown off by one ton diesels
they have to weigh a lot more than my bronco.
I will keep posting updates when this comes together.
It might take a little while because my wife has figured out what I'm up to, but she doesn't know how much some of this stuff costs.
thanks for the input
Originally posted by BroncoRoadKill That all sounds good bro. Headers and a gibson exhaust would work great. Also a flowmaster.
My truck already had flowmaster cat back 2 1/2 inch when I got it.
What size is pipe on Gibson exhaust?
I already bought lightning shorty headers, (not installed yet) or are you suggesting long tube headers?
Is anybody running Bassani off road (non catalyst) head pipe?
What size is pipe on Bassani head pipe and catback.
thanks for the input.
you can probably find out a lot of very detailed information by checking Summit, Jegs, or any of the truck performance retailers. the Comp Cam 35-255-5 is a great choice - see other threads on this forum - because it's designed for speed-density and won't impair the computer's functions. shorty headers are better - IMO - because they don't have the clearance issues that long-tubes do. oh yeah, by the way...you get blown away by 1-ton diesels because those engines have WAY more torque than ours do.
stay away from long tube headers they will give you all sorts of head aches. you headers should be fine but dont know to many people that have used them.
I know that maf kit is calibrated to those 30lb injectors. but this setup was geared to a high reving high hp go fast motor. you said your looking for low end torque . injectors are rated by what hp you plan to run. 19lb injectors are good up to 350hp . 24lb are good up to 450hp. Just wanting to try and save you from spendy more time and money because its not running correctly is all. dont take it personal.
