An intake kit and headers would both make it louder. I think flowmasters, magnaflow, dynomax or gibson would sound good on a V6. I've only got a 4banger but I put a dynomax superturbo on and it sounds pretty mean. You can get one of those for about $40 at advance auto parts or $20 on ebay.

Flowmaster are very nice when setup right. On my 77, I know no cats, but its a true dual system with an H-pipe located in the correct posistion and the exhast out the rear. Normal drive it rumbles nicely just asking to be romped on. Jump on it and it roars. Before it blew-up I love smoking the rice burners. The look on there faces more than made up for a 7k build that last 3 months.
On a newer truck with a small block I would look at what type of exhust system is on the mustang cobra. I think those are one of the sweetest sounding stock exhausts I have ever heard.
