Not sure what a fussy start is, can you be more descriptive? Is it only when cold?

You will definitely want to invest in an OBDII gauges, Scan Gauge II is the go to for many here. But there are others such as Torque App, Dashboss, and Forescan.

There can be many contributing factors, but you will need to provide some obdII data.

You could be loosing oil from the high pressure side. That requires the pump to refill the system to get the 500 pounds for startup. To test, you have to apply air pressure to the system and listen for leaks. Go to youtube and watch a few videos on 6.0 hard start.

Rough cold start would typically point to injector stiction. You can try cleaning the spool valves. There is a good write up on the process. I will post it if I can find it.

You may want to check battery and FICM health. It can be done without gauges but I would recommend gauges.

Please don't use Slick 50,Seafoam and a host of other snake oils.

People find that Rotella T6 or one of the other fully synthetic
oils that meet the standards for your engine are the best.

One thing to check on is do you have the right oil filter cap
with the correct filter in it. There are some aftermarket filters
that are tall and some how the filter that is glued in comes loose.
It then gets replaced with a true blue Ford filter. That can cause
problems because it's shorter and then will allow unfiltered oil past it.
