6.0 No Start

I'm working on a 2005 F350 with a 6.0. The customer was driving the truck when it suddenly quit running and now it won't start. The only code stored in the memory is P2290 - ICP too low. With my scanner connected the IPR is showing 85% duty cycle and the ICP is only showing 5 psi while cranking. I disconnected the ICP sensor while cranking but still no fire, so I removed it and connected a pressure gauge which shows zero psi while cranking. I hooked up a cylinder leakdown gauge to the ICP port and with 100 PSI of air pressure I'm showing less than 2% leakage with the IPR energized at 60% duty. Thinking the hpop was bad I replaced it but still no change. I also tried a new IPR but no luck there either. I removed the oil filter cartridge and verified the low pressure pump is pumping oil while cranking. Could the inlet screen be plugged inside the oil cooler? I'm at a complete loss.

05' and up pumps rarely go bad, are you using OEM parts? The IPR is still dumping oil to the crankcase at 60% 85% is as far closed as the PCM will command it.

Yes, both the pump and IPR came from the Ford dealer. I didn't bother boosting the IPR beyond 60% because even at that level it was obvious I didn't have any leaks. I couldn't hear any air leaking either.

You are applying 100 psi air to a system that takes 3000-4000 psi on a regular basis. Sometimes it takes a little bit to push the oil out of the system so you can hear the air.Do you hear any leaking out of the oil fill tube. Or the CVC on the drivers side. On the other hand when you replaced the pump it takes a good while cranking to get oil back into the system. When you refilled with oil did you pour it down the oil filter housing to help prime the system. Keep the batteries charged or you will damage the FICM. 30 sec crank rest, 30 sec crank rest, you know the drill.

This morning I pulled the oil filter back out and held the drainback valve down with a screwdriver while cranking. The housing was filled with oil in about 10 seconds. Next I took a quart of fresh oil and using a pointed tip on the bottle I emptied the entire thing into the hole of the stand pipe. Put the filter back in and cranked some more but still zero pressure. Next I removed the ICP sensor and cranked for about 30 seconds while watching the hole to see if it is even pumping oil. Absolutely nothing. Even if there were a leak somewhere in the system, wouldn't you expect at least some oil to be pumped out through the ICP hole while cranking? And if there really was a leak that massive that all of the oil is being diverted elsewhere wouldn't I have noticed it with air pressure?

Did you make sure to install the oring between the block and HPOP, also did you make sure there wasn't a plastic plug in the suction port of the HPOP? The only other place to look is the HPOP reservoir screen.

New O-rings were installed in both locations on the HPOP and the plugs were removed before installation. I was wondering about the screen inside the oil cooler as well. But...

I finally got it running. With the ICP sensor removed I kept pouring oil into the filter stand pipe and cranking it over. After several cranking/cool off periods I FINALLY got it to start pumping oil out the ICP hole. Replaced the ICP and oil filter, cranked it for about 10 seconds and it started right up. Starts and runs fine now. So, the original problem was indeed a failed HPOP but this one was especially stubborn about priming and bleeding out.

So you put the original IPR back in it to verify that the old IPR was still in fact good?
