1997 7.3 Starting Issues

Hello, new guy here.

A few months ago I acquired a 97 F-350 cab-chassis truck to Haul my junk around. It has developed a problem with starting when it is warm.

When I start the truck first thing in the morning it starts very well. If I shut it off and restart it in less than an hour it will restart very well.

The problem is, if I let it sit for more than two hours it will not start until the motor is stone dead cold, usually the next morning.

I have done a lot of reading the past few weeks about common problems. I replaced the ICP sensor, fuel filter, and have been monitoring the HPOP oil level. Today I pulled the IPR to clean it and install new o-rings.

I also got AutoEnginuity so I can try and figure out the problem. It points towards low oil pressure, but sometimes it will register 2k psi and still not start.

I would appreciate any advice,
Thanks,
Bill Jones.

A no start when hot points to the IPR usually. Still have the same symptoms even after new IPR O-Rings?

x2^^^^^ Sounds like your IPR is worn out. Might be time for a new one IMHO. Welcome to FTE!

I have not gotten the truck back together yet. I decided to go ahead and put all new O-rings in the fuel bowl while I was doing the work.

The old IPR looked ok, but I guess looks can be deceiving.

Well, the new orings didn't help, so I put a brand new IPR into the tuck today. It didn't help either. The truck will still not start when it gets hot. The oil pressure is anywhere from 800 to 1900 psi. No fuel is making it's way to the cylinder is my guess still, because it's not smoking while cranking.

How are the batteries and starter? Does it spin over fast, or slower when it is hot. If the batteries aren't up to snuff, the starter may be pulling the voltage down enough so the injectors aren't seeing the right voltage to fire.

The batteries are pretty good. I am consistently seeing 10.8 volts while cranking.
