I bought the FICM module from NAPA here in Madison,AL. It was $around $279 tax included. It took about 60 minutes to swap it the second time. I think the hardest thing was removing and reconnecting the wiring harnesses. As usual with Ford you need to squeeze your hand into some tight spots but it wasn't too bad. You need to drain about 2 gallons of coolant and remove the overflow reservoir. The there are about 4 bolts, 2 nuts and 3 harnesses to get the FICM out.

There is no need to drain anything. Just unbolt the degas, loop the crossover hose and then shove it to the side.

I didn't Drain it when I tested the voltage. But for the 5 minutes it took me to drain it, it was way easier for me.

@mustang_309 I appreciate the advice. I'm aware of the FICM issues. My farms are stretched out 30 miles and I work 45 miles from the house. I've my other truck and rely on this one. At the moment I'm looking for a swap.
Swampdiesel has a good FICM rebuild also. I installed one in my brothers amarillo. Then swampdiesel just sent you a ficm but they aren't doing that now. 3 days is a long time for me to be w/ out my truck.
@bwholl I take it you got a half shell. Southland inter. Has em for $170

BS, you're not draining 2 gallons in 5 minutes unless you're just dumping it on the driveway and adding new coolant.

Sorry, I didn't put a stop watch or measured what I took out. I attached some plastic tubing from the drain to a plastic jug. It didn't take hours like you are suggesting. Drained what I need to empty the reservoir. It didn't take long to empty it. My reservoir had three hoses on it and was a bitch to bend out of the way.

I was following instructions from https://www.ford-trucks.com/ford-manuals/FICM.pdf. Section 2 suggests:

Remove FICM from truck. It was easier if ~ 2 gallons of coolant was removed and coolant reservoir removed.

When I was done, I put the coolant back in with a funnel that had a strainer on to catch any junk.

@exiled Wish I had gotten the part for $179, the one I got was just the power module circuit board. That's all the local parts places had and they all were in the same price range.

Never even thought about them,, I forget that it's really an International engine in a Ford truck.

Thanks, I'll keep them in mind the next time...

Ed has a hot swap program where he will send a repaired unit out and once you receive it you box your old up one and ship it back to him.

That's what I did... Call him up, tell him your current specs (4 pin or 7) and what strategy you want and he'll have it sent out in a day or 2. Then ship your old one back.

That's BS cause it can be done. Put a 5gl bucket under the truck and pull the bottom hose. That's how I drained mine when I flush the coolant.
@mustang thanks for the info I'll look into it. That will help me out.
@bwholl the part number at intern. Is #5010598R92 if you ever need another one.

What's funny is the thought of draining coolant to change a FICM

No not really considering the ficm is sitting under the degas bottle. I don't know that I'll drain mine. I'll prolly just move the degas bottle as is.
There is a lot of strange things that has to be removed to work on engines these days. I was just saying that 2 gals of coolant can be drained in 5 minutes.
