My 05 has been running pretty sluggish (like a miss) the last couple weeks at take off. Changed fuel filters and oil no change. Drove it yesterday morning, the same came back couple hours later to go and nothing but smoke. Starts up and idles fine but as soon as the pedal is touched (in neutral) it bogs down and almost cuts off. Let off pedal and idles fine. The smoke is ungodly and the smell is unreal. Truck wont hardly move. Any ideas?
Do you have any gauges that read live data? Like scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS or torque for Android? The scan gauge II can be had at autozone for around 160 bucks and is well worth it, it will pay for itself the first time it helps you diagnose a problem with your truck. They are an absolute necessity in diagnosing these trucks. Do you use OEM oil filters, fuel filters and air filters? Do you have the OEM oil filter cap? If you don't have a way to pull codes cruise by autozone or oreilys and have them pull the codes, if you have any codes write them down and post them here.
You need to check your FICM voltage, here is a link to the FICM test procedure located in the tech folder at the top of the forum, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html
Your FICM voltage should never drop below 45 at anytime from KOEO ( key on engine off ), cranking, idling or WOT ( wide open throttle ) or anytime in between, if it does your FICM needs repaired.
Its sounds to me to be injector related but we need to know if you have any codes and you need some gauges as mentioned above.
I use all ford filters, caps ect. I replaced ficm about a year ago. I had a buddy come by with his computer, forgot to write down the codes. His is all digital, I cold watch the injectors at a idle and all looked good. Barely push pedal and you watch everyone of them fall out like -53. I don't think every injector would go out at the same time. I'm thinking fuel pressure? Blue spring upgrade? Just guessing, gonna try an get a fuel pressure gauge on it tonight. Thanks for the advice. Does symptoms relate to low pres? Ohhh and the smoke is grayish and smells just raw, like eye burning.
Doing the blue spring is a great idea and knowing the fuel pressure is also a great thing to know. I would test the fuel pressure before and after you install the blue spring. The FICM can also cause issues with the injectors even though it is only a year old, if you battery voltage hasn't been up to snuff you could have damaged the FICM, that's why you still need to check the FICM volts just to be sure that is not part of the problem. That's another reason why it is so important to have gauges so you can keep an eye on things like system voltage, FICM voltage and other things.
Also the codes are very important in figuring this out so if you can have your friend drop by with his computer in tow and read them again for you it would be most helpful.
Ooookkkk, I have a meter. Set dc, the other **** has numbers 3000, 300, 30 and 3. I put it at 30 ( sorry I'm a dumb a.. When it comes to the meter thing) key on .01 at idle 28.
Not sure if you have the meter set correctly, the other **** with the numbers is that the range? If so you should set it to the range that is capable of reading as high as you need to go so I would set it to 300 as 30 is too low and make sure you have DC volts selected and that the leads are plugged in to the correct ports if it has more than 2. At key on you should have 48 volts and no less than 45.
Can't get a reading at 300 or 3000 it's 0 key on .3 at idle. Set at 30 it's .1 key on 28 @ idle. Truck off batt 12.4 @ idle 13.9. Leads are in correct hole lol color coded.

The reason I pointed that out is there are meters that have more than 2 lead ports and depending on what you're testing determines where you plug your leads in.

The battery volts look good but the FICM volts are way off, as soon as you turn the key on you should have a min of 45. I think when your friend brings his computer over I would check the FICM volts with the computer, I'm not convinced your meter can read the range you need.

I sure would hate to condemn a FICM based off of those readings, but if the FICM volts are in fact that low it needs to be sent off for a rebuild. A lot of us on here like Ed at FICMrepair.com

Rechecked voltage with the snap on solus ultra and it shows 46 key on 48.5 idle. Don't know why I am getting a different reading on volt meter. Checked fuel pressure 45lbs, was told it should be like 67 with blue spring upgrade. Is that pressure too low and be my problem?
45 is the minimum spec at wide open throttle, so if that is at idle I would say its quite a bit lower when you accelerate. Low pressure is a leading cause of injector damage so if it were my truck I wouldn't drive it until I put a blue spring in it and rechecked the fuel pressure. And as far as the FICM goes it should never drop below 45 from KOEO, cranking, idling, WOT or anytime in between.
