Changing instrument cluster in my 76 F100

I have a 76 F100 with 6 cylinder. Long story short, I need to replace the instrument cluster and the one I found locally is the kind with 4 gauges. The one that is already in the truck that needs to be replaced is the one with idiot lights for Alt and Oil Press.

The 4 gauge cluster has a different size connector and different circuit board. Not all the color wires on the truck harness match the pigtail that I got with the cluster. Does anyone have the proper wiring code for me to take my harness for idiot lights to a cluster with 4 gauges? I realize I will have to change Oil Press sender. I don't even know if Alt gage will work, but I don't care so much about that.

Keeping my existing cluster is not an option as it disintegrated as I took it out. I got an entire new (new to me but out of another parts truck) cluster with gauges and pigtail for $60 and want to use it.

Thanks for any help.

The wiring all the way out to the voltage regulator is different between the two styles because the charging system is set up differently for trucks with an ALT light vs. those with an ammeter. You'll need to change much more than just the pigtail. Unless you're up for a project, you're best off finding the correct replacement.

If you're dead set on doing this anyway, the 1976 factory diagrams are here: 1973-1979 Ford Truck Wiring Diagrams & Schematics - FORDification.net

Yeah I did research and found out it is too much trouble to make the change. I will track down an idiot light cluster. Thanks.

Hey Vin Man is that a 85mph or 100mph cluster? May be interested if it is a 100.

It is for 73-79. Don't think it would work for other years.
