for everything going into the radio, we usually have to run a new wire from the battery for the power lead. it should be fused the same as the radio itself is, usually 10 amps.
from there, use a test light to identify the switched hot wire and a good ground wire, or run a new ground wire if you aren't completely sure.
from there, identify your speaker wires, they're usually an obvious pair going to any given speaker, such as grey and grey with black stripe, or purple and purple with black stripe, etc.
most of the times when i install an aftermarket stereo, many of the factory wires are left disconnected, so don't be afraid of that. just get a definate identity of every wire, and wire it to the diagram that came with the radio, usually red to switched hot, yellow to battery hot, black to ground, blue to power antenna or CD changer (left unplugged on models without these options), and speaker wires are the rest of it.

Thanks a lot. Any idea where in the www i´ll find a wire diagram for my Econoline??
i've never looked for the diagram on this, i just take a little $2 test light and set about identifying wires. one wire in the radio group will have power only when the key is on, thats the one you need for the radio's switched 12v wire, power from the battery, and ground should both be run new
speaker wiring is all you have left to worry about, and you get to figure out the speaker wires for yourself, as they may be aftermarket, or you might want to add speakers to go with your new stereo.
these really aren't too hard to do, just make proper connections using butt connectors and a crimping tool. don't just twist the wires and tape them, that method is a fire hazard
You should be able to buy a pig tail to connect the aftermarket radio to the pigtail and plug that into the stock conectors. Walmart may even have it. It will tell you which wire is which.
