Power upgrade questions.

Been reading quite a bit on here about deleting the EGR, CAT and DPF, Goin with new exhaust, Intake and a tuner to really get this thing runnin. Seems like the H&S mini Maxx is a popular choice. Ive noticed it advertises a gain of 250HP. Question is, Who makes the 300-350+ HP tunes iver herd guys talking about, and is a gain like this safe on these motors? Weve all herd the horror stories of the old 6.0s stretching head studs and i really dont want to blow this 6.4 up so looking for your thoughts. Thanks.

H&S has a 300 tune and you can get custom tunes also like the Kem345. If you don't over boost you shouldn't stretch your studs.

You can download the hotdam300 tune on there website. You need to pay extra to get a custom tune like the Kem.

How do you like your hotdam300? Was it much of a difference over the 250 that comes with the mini max?I'm guessing that tune must be ok to run without risk of over boosting, or is there a method your using to controll that from happening? Thanks again. Your most helpfull!

Spartan also has a 300 tune (I run it daily) and a 310 and 350 race tune. You can run them all on your truck stock, but you will be pushing the limits of your head gaskets and your torque converter on all the 300+ tunes if you drive it like you stole it. If you are sensible you can run most any tune on these trucks stock. But to be safe, ARP studs and and built tranny (there are rebuild kits with new TCs and billet shafts) aren't a bad idea.

And every tune can blow head gaskets and overboost if you are stupid with the power.

I love my H&S tunes. You can definitely tell the difference between the 250 & the 300 tunes. It hits 40+ psi of boost pretty easily, you can set your defuel parameters to limit boost but it's not fun to always be hitting your defuel at WOT. I still need to take my truck in to be looked at but my head bolts are possibly stretched already because I have some puking issues so be careful with it or stud it. And like was stated above you can blow gaskets on any tune but it seems like some truck hold up better than others.

Can a guy replace the studs with out removing the heads? Sounds like it would be worth doing before i stretch them, just for piece of mind. I dont drive like a teenager anymore, but it does seem pointless to run a big tune just to baby it around all the time worrying that you could lift the heads if you punch the throttle to the floor to out run a Duramax every now and again...

Yes. I've heard you can replace studs cab on without removing the heads. But you need to remove the turbos and a bunch of other sh**.

Alright, good deal. one other question I had, I noticed the notes on the mini max say it will delete the EGR system with no need to remove any of the parts from the engine. Is there any advantage to removing them, or do most just shut the system off and leave the parts there? Thanks again for your help guys.

The mini will shut the EGR valve off. But it's still good to delete the coolers.

If the coolers are still in place you can still blow a cooler and hydrolock your engine. Shutting the EGR valve with the mini is just keeping the exhaust gases out of your intake.

Well said. It's not the tune in the box that destroys engines, it's the idiot connected to the foot attached to the skinny pedal.

Alrighty fellas, Thought ide send an update followed by another question. I spoke to my local desiel performance shop who recomended the same thing i wanted after reading here. That said, Ive ordered the mini max, an S&B intake kit and a 4" full delete exhaust with muffler and new tip. I spoke to the ford fan there about doing the ARP studs just for the piece of mind and he told me that there are plenty of 600 HP 6.4s runnin around with stock bolts and said i shouldnt worry about them unless i happen to stretch mine. So thats the plan, being its in the range of $3K to have it done. Question is, Where on the H&S site do i go to down load the Hotdam 300 tune? Ive been looking around on there and im not sure ive fount it. Seems to be a popular tune so im wanting to run with it.
Thanks again guys!
