97 F150 MOTOR & TRANS REMOVAL

Hi been a member for awhile but never posted before. I have 97 f150 x-cab 4.6 auto 4x4. I'm gettin ready to pull motor & trans to rebuild both. I was wondering if I can pull both while still bolted together without having to remove the cab??? And what else will needed to be removed.

i would think so. 30 years ago we use to do that by removing the hood, radiator, and grill / guard. LIft 2-3 inches, pull striaght forward out over the bumper.

I know it is possible on older trucks because I have done it many times, but this is my 1st time pulling motor on a newer f150. I thought it may be more trouble sense the motor sits so far back under the cowl.

There is barely enough room for the engine after you remove the radiator and engine fan, no way both will fit unless you can remove the center support and have the truck jacked up enough to swing the tranny way down. If you remove the condenser and all the coolers then the header panel I would bet they will both come out.

I forgot about this thread so guess i should update. Motor and trans came out together. Had to remove transfer case and rad. and condenser but didnt have to remove rad. support. I am almost done rebuilding motor and trying to decide on trans. I was gonna have it rebuilt but thinking of buying a new one. Found what I'm looking for at monster transmission. Has anyone here used them.

How many miles did you have on the truck? Did you take any pic's or a video of the process. Some of us here may be doing the same thing one day soon.
Any issues? Have you ever had any problems with your ESOF?
Keep us updated as to progress.

Not real sure on miles. Truck had 70,000 +/- miles on it when I bought in '04. Drove it for several years without speedo working, at least 200,000. The pics I took prolly wouldn't be verry helpful, mostly pics of where stuff went, not the actual motor/trans removal. (Got wrapped up in pulling it out and forgot to take pics.) Never had any problems with truck until trans messed up. Still had original plugs and wires. All I have done to truck until now is add lift kit/tires, replace starter, and replace rearend because it was damaged in accident before I bought.
