I will be pulling out my 2001 7.3 motor and do you have to lift cab off to extract motor.
Or can you just remove top half of motor (turbo, covers, etc.)
biggest pain will be truck is lifted w/37's 6"
front clip too?
I'm thinking set on blocks as close to ground level as possible
Now, rebuilt motor or remanufactured ready to run purchase.

front clip too?I pulled just the core support, all the coolers I left the hood on but some remove it and it will gain you a little space

This is all from the top of my head so hopefully Im not forgetting anything but I don't think you will have to block it I do them quite often on the tires! Just make damn sure you are using a hoist rated for at least 1000lbs (2000lbs) is preferable as this is a heavy engine and can get away from you easily! All you have to do is pull the nose and core support off its one of the easiest engine pulls ever even on a lifted truck! Pull the grill shell, the bumper, the turn lenses, and the headlights, then pull the entire apron, unbolt and set the oil cooler aside, leave connected, unbolt and set the trans cooler aside, leave it connected too, remove the a/c condenser core its a little tricky as you will have to lift and turnit as you lift it out later when the radiator and core support are out, mark position and remove hood latch, mark position and remove upper core support remove transmissioncooler lines and radiator hoses, remove radiator, remove cac tube clamps and cac, remove cac tubes, remove batteries, remove air box top, remove serpentine belt, remove compressor output clamp, remove turbine input and output clamps, remove turbo to pedestal bolts (2) lift and (pry) off turbo, set your chain to the min.length to clear intake! As you will be all most interfering with body as it is, my chain is 18" long and I remove the intake spider, but it is not nessecary, remove a/c alt bracket and set it in battery tray with all lines attached, pull alt power steering bracket set in bat. Tray with all lines attached, disconnect fuel lines, motor mounts and torque converter bolts, disconnect harness at 42 pin connector and battery pos on pass. Side, disconnect cassias ground on pass. Side firewall below hood hinge, remove oil filter and bell houseing bolts and remove starter and let hang, remove stud at front lower pass side of block w/cable guide attached, same on
drivers side w/ground cable, raise engine and trans approx 2 1/2" and support trans at this level, pry engine from trans and lift approx. 2" more to clear cross member and viola! It's out! I do it in 6 hours alone but allow your self 10 to 12 if you haven't done it before, iput every bolt back into the Joel it came out of (where possible) to speed up reassembly it really keeps the clutter down and you don't have to remember witch came from where!
leave it on the wheels youll be fine. you dont need to take off the oil cooler. up front you just take out the intercooler, raidator, core support, header panel and healights and grille. you can leave the bumper on as well. remove the turbo and down pipe and take off the uppies. on the back of the block there is a ground strap to remove. take out the starter. take off the oil filter. leave the valve covers on. remove the radiator fan. there are 2 ground cables up front down low, one on each side. disconect the wire harness and lay it off to the side. take off the a/c compressor and lay it to the side. thats about it. it is pretty straight forward and easy to do. first time i pulled it i did it in 4 hours by myself.
With that big a lift I'd pull the bumper only 6 bolts and 6 inches less you have to lift up that motor on the way out! But I'm a very cautious guy as I always work alone in the shop and it's too easy to get hurt.
Very helpful guys Ive got a oil pan to do and Im not paying $1600 to have it done , Ive been working in the garage for about 13 years and have done a ton of engine swaps/pulls , it's just nice to have forewarnings of what to look for

4" and 37's...
Remove front end and turbo...
Strap up tranny, unbolt and remove motor...
Scower CL and find a pulled motor for $800, paint it up and throw your stuff on it...
