hey there, just bought a 93 250 4x4 with a 460, havent got it home yet but the guy said the trans is shot, i fired it up out there and he had it in 4 low and i shifted it into 1st and rev and it seamed to jump just fine, put it in drive and not so much. i guess what im asking is worst case sanero dose someone have a link to rebuild one of these by ones self? i hope it is easier than that but just trying to cover my bases???

What trans is it? If it has OD button on shifter then E4OD, if no OD then C6.

Be sure the check engine light is not on, if it is there may be codes that are throwing the E4OD into limp mode...

Just about all the DTC's can make the E4OD act really stupid..

Not to high jack the thread or anything. But i have a problem with it kicking every time it shifts to 2nd and 3rd and was told it was normal for a F250 with the 460. And was wondering if that was normal or there is some thing wrong with it that needs to be fixed.

You did hijack the thread. If you're looking at the forum index there's a button in the top left that says "new thread". That's the one you want.

There is a one-way mechanical clutch on E4OD. All the power for 1st-3rd has to go through this clutch. When it breaks, there will be no forward motion in Drive.

However, there is another clutch that does the same function of that one-way clutch - the "coast clutch". This clutch gets applied in manual 1st, 2nd, or when you hit the "OD Cancel" button while in Drive. The truck will actually be drivable as long as you have OD Canceled, but the broken one-way clutch will slowly eat itself.

Basically it's time for a rebuild.

Why waste a new thread for a question that is on the same topic?

Might be new to this forum but not to forums in general.

Please don't assume that just cause some one is new to the forum that they never been on other forums.

Because the site will never run out of them.

I didn't assume anything. I suggested that you start a new thread and here is a very good reason why. Look at post #10. Who is he talking to? The OP or you?

You can never be sure that two problems are the same either. There can be more than one problem exhibiting a similar or even identical symptom.

There is just never a good reason to not start a new thread. Threads can be merged easily but it's very time-consuming to separate them.
