What trans to go with?

Hello everybody, I'm building a 79 F250 4x4 and will be installing a 429 from a Lincoln car. He's the problem I have a C6 trans I was going to use but figure now would be the time to put a overdrive in it. What overdrive trans would be my best option between a big block and a NP205 transfercase? Thanks

An E4OD is the only one that will work without an adapter.

Do you know if it will work good with a NP205? I read somwhere that the front output would hit the corner of the pan possibly? Thanks for the help.

What year 429?. The early ones (68-70) have a different crank pilot diameter and use a different converter.

No Lincoln came w/a 429. All 1968/78 Lincoln and Continental Marks came with the 460.

E4OD is hassle.

Would recommend gear vendors for same cost and bolt in.

I’ve been looking at the different possible options to get a overdrive set up in my ‘77 F150 4x4. I would have to agree with your comment of going the Gear Vendors overdrive route as well.

It’s the next major expense that my truck gets. I’m hoping this summer I can do it.

Would a AOD fit between a big block Ford and a NP205?

AOD never had a big block bell pattern stock. I believe you can get built ones with a custom bell but ur talking $$$. E4OD would require a standalone controller which would be around $500-600 with a harness. They are not awesome when stock but can be built to be very hefty. Diesel and Lightning guys put tons of power through them
