Purpose of the resonator 5.4 EX
Was wondering if I removed it if their was any up/down side to it? When you first give the truck gas it sounds like there is a hole in either the muffler or the resonator. I looked under the truck and there is a knock off flowmaster that goes into the resonator and out below the rear bumper. Thinking of going with a more stock muffler then out the side of the quarter like the V10 exhaust does.

After the muffler, many times the manufaturer finds that the noise levels are dampened to a reasonable level, but the sound that comes out sucks. Sometimes it is a frap frap frap, sometimes a tinny blap blap blap.
The resonator is installed to mellow out this noise into something pleasant.
If you put your lips together tight and make a noise with them, it sounds sort of like you are giving someone a razberry.
But if you do it in the mouthpiece of a horn, it comes out mellow and smooth.
The resonator is like the horn. Smooth out the noise, or, in some cases, give it a more "throaty" sound.
