Do I need to rebuild my E4OD?
Hi guys, I have a 1993 f-350 dually 7.5.L with 124,000 miles. When I start off in 1st (OD off) it has plenty of power and the tranny doesn't slip. When the truck shifts into 2nd it shifts smoothly but it sounds like a bell is ringing under the truck. If I let off the gas a bit and reapply the throttle a bit harder it stops. If I am pulling my trailer the sound becomes more frequent and louder. Any ideas of what the problem is? Thanks in advance...

Sounds more like a cracked flexplate than a transmission problem. Your mileage is still pretty low on that Trans. You'll need to pull the access cover and turn it by hand and see if you can find any cracks. Not too hard to diagnose but its a pull of the beastly e4od to repair.
When the flexplate cracks it will make the kind of sound you are describing while not under load and will stop dinging when under load.... until it breaks....

I used a Innova ford obd 1 code reader.
I conducted a KOEO test (Ignition off) a recived a continuous code 62 and its defined as "(trucks only): Transmission 4/3 circuit fault".
I also pulled a code 31 and its defined as "(trucks only): EVAP control system below minimum voltage".
I noticed that when I drive the truck late last night it didn't shudder at all. This has happened twice.

Thanks Mark!
Update I pulled the battery, Cleaned all the firewall wire harness connections and anything I could get to under the hood while I was at it with connection spray and dielectric grease. Climbed under the truck and cleaned the connection near the gear shift linkage. I couldn't get the connection on the other side of the trans. I checked the code before I left and it had reset its self. I drove it around a bit and the trans felt much better. I did shudder a bit down shifting gears when I slowed down and got back into the gas. Got home and checked the codes and it didn't pull the 62 code. I also realized that my cruise control doesn't work.
Mark what do you think a trans shop should charge to replace the torque converter if they did all the work? Thanks again for your insight!
