Ok got some more done tonite. Heres the side shot
one with the mounts
on my truck with winch in behind
heres my old setup
nice strong mount but was just a little low and stuck out too much so it limited my approasch angle on the very steep rock crawls.I actually hit the winch plate a couple times.
Heres my rear setup which is my next build for the rear bumper this weekend. Cops confiscated my plates about a month ago so its just a big hole..
By the way bumper is nowhere near complete i still need to finish capping the one side but i didnt want to do it yet until i get my own grill assembly on there to make sure its all the same. the bottom will probably have a 2" plate on it angled downwards as well. Plus lights to go in I just need to buy some i like so i can figure out how to place them.I just need more TIME!
I dont know. Cop said i could pick them up again from icbc but when i went to cancel insurance theyy said you dont get them back so i'll have to purchase new ones for like $30. I didnt like my plates anyways they were AW 4165 and the first thing my bro said was "thats cute your plate says AWWW". When i was doing insurance I asked the lady for a different plate and she gave me a bitchy answer saying" These are the series we're running right now!!!!" I kinda got scared and didnt ask anymore questions haha...
cool man, i really like your truck...mine will be close to the same lift porlly and tires, tons under it, idk it should be decent when im done with it.

Well if you got any questions about ANYTHING just ask. There's lots of tricks to building these trucks from suspension(shackle flips and hangers)brakes, steering boxes and tapping for hydro assist,driveshafts,axles...my buddies think I'm crazy for the amount of stupid info I know. One thing for sure is if you got big tires and a heavy foot like me you WILL find every possible weak link imaginable and it baffles me sometimes on what goes. I've done things 2 or 3 times WAY too often and most was not knowing any better that's why I can get pissy when I see some truck builds on here and I make some suggestions and I get a response like I don't know what I'm talking about. I've done it and seen it all! I'm 27 and been at this since I was about 16 but really serious the last 4 years. I'm a welder/ fabricator by day and 4x4mechanic on the side.
4:10's. But my 5:13's are on the way!! I was running at cruise speed at around 2800 rpm and with my 390 it makes most power at like 6000 rpm so this is the whole reason I'm going with the hard to find 428 because not only will it boost my power(looking for 450 hp/550p/t) but will give my peak power in a lower rpm from what i've searched and read. So my 5:13's will bump up my rpm at cruising to maybe around 3500 rpm which will be right in the power range. It should be a wicked combo and lots of fun..
O taht rear end I've never posted a pic of it all done beforre. Notice those U bolts. May not look too fancy but they are massive 3/4"!! When I mentioned things that baffle me that break this was one of them. I had new 9/16 U bolts before which I thought would be fine and i twisted them up. What happened was the actually "brand new" weld on spring perches collapsed and bent on the front part where it is a open channel and caused my axle to rotate up enough where it put my 1350 1 ton cv on my driveshaft in a bind and snap it off the flange on the t case in a 4wheeling comp. I couldn't believe it was able to bend 1/4 steel. The stock 4" block was bent as well with a curved bottom. Intense! I had to redo the whole setup on the axle and cut off the old perches. I purchased the same perches againg but this time i boxed in the front and back open sections with 1/2 inch plate so it could not collapse. Then i went and got custom 3/4" farm equipment grade u bolts made up with a 3/4" top plate to lock it down. Axle was re set to 1.5 degree below parralel for proper set up for a cv shaft then I also made custom 4" blocks out of all 1/2" plate I had laying around. The blocks are heavy as hell and took probably 1 1/2 hours of stick welding to glue them together. Overkill but do you think it will break again....yeah NO
I went with this TA performance diff cover because it has set screws to put pressure on bearing caps under extreme torque, has a higher fill plug to allow more oil now that my diff is rotated up it needs this to get oil to the pinion bearing,a drain, cools better, and its 3/8 thick.
well thats sweet man, im in a half day welding program that is a really highly respected program around my state, so this is the first year i cant do my own really good welding job, instead of just barely par. on you gears, im interested in how your truck does with them 5.13s, thats what i was going to purchase but what would you estimate rpms cruisin 55 with them. i wanna drive this thing on the roads and no be screeming it. thanks man
