very good point. yamy buddy was tryin to pull some drunk guys car out of the creel, his winch pulled fine, but it also pulled his truck too would of been nice to anchor to something. good thoughts
The problem is the anchor point you need sometimes is far away so unless you carry a long rope the winch is mint. The other trick is to just have another truck in front of you and tie off to him.
when i was young and stupid, now i'm a little older and still stupid, i buried my truck up to the chrome trim line in a river bottom. it was one of those i can make it drunk kid moves with no after thought. my buddy with a f150 I6 4x4 was moving me until the fuzz showed up and i found out that the boat docks weren't public land. they said get a tow or get tresspassing charges, and at the time i had full coverage so i went tow. a semi tow truck was getting pulled into my truck with his pto winch. he had to call another wrecker to come down with more cable so he could attatch to a telephone pole 150 feet away from where we were at, and still had a hell of a time getting me
got some progress done today been putting it off...
I had the hardest time figuring out what I wanted to do with the ends!!
I eventually made the whole bumper 1 1/2"s thiner by cutting the whole back strip and brackets to push it back closer to tail gate all just so the end had more of a rectangle shape rather than a square end. It looks WAY better in my opinion leaving it not too bulky and very clean. I added the little piece to the body to cap the back with a 1/4 inch gap.I made the end cap on the bottom line follows the line of the box as well for a nice contour from bodyy to bumper...
Here is the current state of my truck now with the cab gutted, all aftermarket gauges, steering coulmn, line lock, roll cage, and stuff ready to be transfered to new cab. biggest pain is the hydro boost master cylinder is bolted to a custom plate welded to cab so I'll have to cut it off as well and transfer that as well. I'm overloaded with the amount of work I have right now from new motor build, body swap, bumpers, and paint.
Bumpers will eventually be powdercoated a dark metallic grey
I have a 4 day weekend coming up I hope to get a lot done as I miss driving this thing everyday. I need to finish these bumpers and start focusing on my body and motor. I've almost got all the parts I've been waiting on...
i wish i had the ambition you have. f. the body. even if you don't paint match everything it will still look great, but i am a poor white trash redneck, and multi-color trucks=win to me
One good thing is the body I'm putting on is MINT. Simple sand and paint. the box is the body I'm installing. The front clip is the match to it but I have a sweet green cab to go on from a 73 again. haha just funny I got a 73 cab again I could of been maybe 79 ford guy... I did change out my front grill to the 79 style I just prefer the looks better
Yeah I work in a fabricating/steel shop. We do mainly new structural steel construction as well as some equipment and small stuff including handrails..
I was going to take this to my shop but my little 110 lincoln buzz box works really good. I use a smaller .030 wire rather than a .035 and it burns in real nice. I use a NR-211-mp gasless lincoln wire. Trick to this stuff is you need to switch the polarity on it making the gun - and the ground the +. Simple little wing nuts inside the cover to switch. I do have my large Miller stick welder as well and I would of used it if it were 1/4" material.
I built it all on a open corner joint so I could get full pen on the material and make a nice consistant weld.
I'll put some stitches on the inside as well. Maybe 2" every 12"s just to stiffen it up alittle more ,as well as some vertical gussets especially one directly behind were the clevis mounts will be to make that spot very strong from any flex on a heavy pull.
