I try and do option c as much as possible. Get better penetration and the bead looks alot better. I did it that way when I built my engine crossmember for my 79 and it turned out bitching. I did also weld small sections on the inside as well, just for the added strength.
This is the best pic though. I just finished welding my front bumper out not 15 minutes before this and I put my winch to work!
Ran a ****** block to the frame of the 79 ahead of me and dragged it forward. Then re rigged off the white car to do a 90 degree pull to drag out green cab from side of yard. Then a straight pull till it hit pavement. Then it went onto a floor jack for the last 15 feet to line it up.
All this in a matter of about 45 minutes..
You should of seen how I installed my truck box as well. I have no pics but what i did was use my rear winch up over the frame to the crossmember behind cab on a ****** block then back to the rear end with it attatched to a small tab with a hole welded to the back face of the box. I ran the winch control while standing on frame and guided it into place. Its funny because about an hour earlier my buddy was over and I mentioned to him if I get motivated I may swap my truck box. He said he drove by an hour later and from the highway which runs close to my house he seen a new truck box on my truck and wondered how the hell I did it so fast...lol
I didnt have any help either and I was very hung over!!
these winches have come in so handy on so many occasions now
Maybe if I lived on a FARM! Lol. I live on the corner of a nice newer neighbourhood where everyone has matching address signs on my whole block.
I'm getting rid of all my extra body parts this weekend asap. It comes, I rape it for what I need and I send it away.
I get by for what I have..

HAHAHA!! i know exactly what u mean! i always get guys trying to get stuff from me for free.. i already selling things dirt cheap! most the time losing.. ive got to the point i keep it or trash it now too.
I had some older business kinda east indian guy at my house the other day when i was working trying to get me to fix his bumper on his pathfinder. I told him straight up I'd do it for him for $150 and it would probably take me 4 hours. He tried dickering with me down to 130$ and said do it for a friend...I responded by saying I dont know you and I couldnt care less to make a little extra $ I have to much work to do for myself. I told him they charge me out at 85$ an hour and that was a deal for him. He kept on being persistant that I do it for him and eventually he went away.
finished the welding and 90% of the clean up work tonite. Finally built the sides now that i have my front clip and fenders bolted in place. I wanted everything bolted up before I finished it up along the body lines. I like it. It makes it look really mean now.
