clearing IDM codes (tugly)

Ran across this tech bulletin » Ford 7.3L Powerstroke Special Code Clearing Procedure For Injector Driver Module (IDM) Codes and wonder if our AE software can accomplish this procedure. I have tried clearing the DTC 1316 code after doing some work to try and fix the re-appearing code (new harnesses and ohmed all good and truck runs fine. Still get the code popping up. I am not that computer literate and hoping maybe our resident AE guru could wade in on this topic. Roy

Or maybe somebody else could shed some light on this question.

Reading that bulletin it looks like they are telling you to clear codes, remove scantool, reinstall scantool, and pull codes again.

You wouldn't want to reinstall the scan tool. They are suggesting you clear the codes, then go through the process of testing the IDM again. In this case, a KOEO and KOER is the AE version of a retest. P1316 is a generic code. If there is a true problem, The KOEO and KOER should flag something more specific. While talking with people in industry, the generic IDM code rates up there with the #3 and #8 failure with a grey CPS... ignore it unless you have issues and other evidence to back this code up.

"If DTCs appear to be persistent it may be necessary to remove the scan tool, reinstall and recheck for DTCs by re-running the self-test."

Why wouldn't you want to reinstall the scantool?

That can be read more than one way... as in unload it from your computer and reinstall - or... as in pull the plug and hook back up again.

I was assuming they meant unplug from truck and plug back in.
