Any OBDII reader will work for generic codes. There's nothing special about the SD when it comes to readers except you'd do best to get one that supports "manufacturer-specific" codes.

Make certain you buy one that has CAN capabilities. This one looks pretty bare-bones (Aquus Innova 3030, it looks like).

Not necessarily true... if he has a PSD a generic OBDII reader will NOT work.

I purchased the Innova 3160 and it has been very useful... ABS, CANOBD2, Live Data, etc. for $194.00.

Amazon.com: Equus 3160 Innova ABS + Professional CanOBD2 Diagnostic Code Scanner for OBDII Vehicles with Back-lit Screen and Enhanced Live Data: Automotive

It will still read the "generic" OBDII codes. Please re-read my post.

Nice edit job.

Either way, if the OP had a PSD, a generic reader is a waste of money.

My OBD II reads absolutely nothing on my 99 PSD.
Even worse, the truck holds no memory. When I had SES light coming on, I took it to a shop for codes reading. 5 minutes later there was no code in memory. That was most likely for Pedal Position Sensor.

I believe so... look at the detailed thread below.

Equus Products, INC.

Retrieves OBD2 DTCs: Generic Codes (P0, P2, P3, and U0) / Manufacturer Specific Codes (P1, P3, and U1)

I have an 05 f250 super duty.

I'd like to buy a scanner that will give the details on it.. I might jump across the border to see if a place will scan it for free down there. I live on the canada us border and everyone up here charges an arm and a leg to scan your vehicle.

I just got off the phone with equus, they said if the vehicle is under 8500lbs and the vehicle lets you scan OBD2 codes it should work fine.

thats right from tech support..

I am thinking this is the best scanner for the buck. $359

Everyone says its very competitive at it's price point with some of the bigger ones.

I tried calling riff raff it says their out of the office till the weekend, does that mean they are not shipping?

Look again. It was NOT edited...

I do agree with you that a generic reader is a waste of time and money, but that wasn't the question I was answering.

The thing is the PSD trucks are not OBDII compliant, they are diesels and do no have to be.

Again, a GENERIC OBDII Scanner WILL NOT read most of the codes/systems on a PSD.

A regular SD gas engine it should be fine tho, although I have never owned one and never tried. Keep in mind they want to sell you a product, just because it will plug into the OBDII port does not mean any OBDII scanner will work. Changed real quick to make a point!
