CONSISTENTLY THE FUEL INJECTOR FILLING OF FILTH, HOW CAN I AVOID THIS, AND CLEAN THEM
I HAVE A 97 F-150 4.2L 4X4, WITH ABOUT 80,000 MILES. 3 WEEKS AGO I MADE A FULL TUNING OF THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION, BUT SINCE THAT DAY IT BEGANS TO RUN VERY UNSTABLE SOME TIMES RUNS GREAT AND SOME TIMES FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE NOT RESPOND, A FRIEND OF MY DAD TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO CHANGE ALL THE FUEL INYECTORS, BUT A COWORKER WHO IS MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ONLY NEEDS A DEEP CLEANING...
WHICH IS THE BEST CHOICE???
AND IF I CLEAN THEM, HOW IS THE BEST WAY TO DO IT???
THANKS AND SORRY FOR MY MISSPELLINGS, I´M FROM MEXICO AND I DON´T WRITE ENGLISH VERY WELL...
You are coming to a conclusion without a good basis.
Explain what all you did.
Fuel injectors' feedline has a filter in line under the truck along the frame rail.
Did you change that?
Are you sure the fuel you have is clean and good?
Is there a trouble lamp (cel) on in the dash?
If yes, there will be a code set in the computer to give a hint of what system the issue is at.
For injecor cleaning, there are several ways it can be done.
A. by a shop with correct equipment.
b. by introducing a cleaner into the fuel tank with the gas.
c. by removing each injector and doing a service also by a shop that has the correct equipment.
Good luck.
You don't always have to replace the screens and all. I usually just dip mine, use carb cleaner to spray the loose gunk out, blow them out, and they are all good to go.
I dunno the history of the vehicle but if you have gotten a lot of dirt in the fuel tank its possible your pump is plugged. Or it may be going bad. Or it could be a ton of different things. A dirty crankshaft or camshaft sensor for example. Pull codes if your light is on first.
I had another friend with a '99 who had nearly an identical situation and his fuel pump relay went bad, was loosing contact. Its real easy to check. Start the truck, get out, and tap on the fuel pump relay. If it stutters or changes at all, the relay is bad.
lot of things it could be, injectors is the last choice. It happened right after the tuneup ? What did you change. spark plugs or wires or coil ? Maybe you got a bad one or cracked ? Maybe you pulled the wire off the sensor inside the air inlet tube or forgot to reconnect ?
YES IT HAPPENDED RIGHT AFTER THE TUNEUP... I CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND THEIR WIRES, THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY I CLEAN THE INJECTORS... I CHECK ALL THE WIRES OF ALL SENSORS BUT I DIDN´T FIND NONE UNPLUGED...
