mexican diesel

Will it be a problem running mexican deisel with the 6.7 We holiday in southern Mexico for the winter and the sulpur content is higher in Mexico.I have heard that it will clean itself out if not used for a prolonged period of time.

My understanding is that you must use ultra low sulpher diesel unless you special ordered your truck for export. Never been in Mexico so I could not comment on their fuel

Is there anyone that has any insight on this subject? I know if you have a vehicle designed to run on high content sulpher fuel it can run low sulpher fuel with a lubricity additive - but the other was around - I am not sure - the owners manual says it will damage the motor and void the warranty.

From what I understand, your motor should be just fine, but your DOC/DPF will slowly be poisoned over time and become less effective.

Maybe there are some other issues with the EGR but the DOC/DPF has been the primary concern.

I've read several guys post about being in mexico with their 6.4l's with no issues.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread all - But Rebeljet cannot receive PM messages yet as he is a new user, so please excuse the off subject inquiry - Rebeljet I was curious about your holiday trips in Mexico, Do you go with a group? If not have you ever had problems with security on a trip or with people trying to take your rig? Do you hire security? For many years I have had a desire to go to Mexico with my family but have always decided not to go as I've received many reports that it is too dangerous.

We have been driving to Mexico for five years now and have never encountered any problems.This year we plan on driving with two other rvers because of the recent drug wars

FWIW, in Baja they import U.S. ULSD, in most of the rest of Mexico they use LSD like we used just a couple of years ago.
I'd definitely talk with my dealer about the effects of LSD on my emmisions system.

LSD will kill the DPF and also poison the oxidation catalyst.

I also was wondering, most of the violence is concentrated along the border. From the Bureau of Consular Affairs.


Travelers on the highways between Monterrey and the United States (notably through Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros) have been targeted for robbery that has resulted in violence and have also been caught in incidents of gunfire between criminals and Mexican law enforcement. Travelers should defer unnecessary travel on Mexican Highway 2 between Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo due to the ongoing violent competition between DTOs in that area. Criminals have followed and harassed U.S. citizens traveling in their vehicles in border areas including Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, and Tijuana. U.S. citizens traveling by road to and from the U.S. border through Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Durango, and Sinaloa should be especially vigilant. Criminals appear to especially target SUVs and full-size pick-up trucks for theft and car-jacking along these routes.

You may want to check with your dealer or someone at Ford Technical Support. I know on the construction equipment we manufacture that we provide a dealer-engaged high-temp regen procedure to "fix" DPF and DOC that have been "poisoned" by use of higher sulfur fuel. I don't know if Ford has written the same code into their engine control software, but I would not be suprised if there is not a software solution in the Ford toolbox that is not public knowledge.
