Make your own HPX & FRX?

Has anyone made their own HPX? What size are the fittings that are required? I was thinking of heading down to our local industrial shop and having one of these made up.

FRX however requires a metered return, anyone know a part number of an in-line Pressure Relief Vale of sorts that will do the trick? The rest of the plumbing looks pretty straight forward.

Several have made their own HPX and regulated return systems.

The HPX fittings are #5 ORB in the block.

A parts list for the RR can be found in post #9 here:

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I would think in the end after you spend half a day sourcing all the fittings and buying everything you wouldn't save much if anything over buying those two kits from Riffraff Diesel.

I doubt it... I have the motor on the ground in front of me... The shop down the street makes high pressure hoses and will have ALL the fittings I would need. The only thing I need to figure out (And I have more than enough time as my motor won't be going back together for another few weeks.) is the orphis or pressure releif type valve for the return.

I will keep everyone posted on my "Project" and let you know exact $$$ Investment and time to install.

The HPX is easy as I see it, its the FRX that will have some complications (only the relief valve).

Don't get me wrong BTW, I buy lots of stuff from Clay and am in the process of buying MUCH more... just figured this one is easy enough that I can do it myself.

As far as I understood. The frx is just a very small orifice to bleed fuel into the return line. Small enough to not overcome the flow of the regulator but just enough to let he fuel and more importantly the air out from being dead ended in the injector loop. I'd say under 1/16th would be fine.

Clays frx kit is badass though. I'd buy it before I built one of my own. I'd much rather build a regulated return instead of an frx. And if you are up in hp I'd suggest that anyway.

I also prefer the steel hpx and not the hose. Many websites that sell it suggest replacing the hose every 2 years. I like the durability of the steel line and the idea that it will never go bad.

I did my own with a write-up and pics. You can find it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/884961-hpx.html

I built my own FRx before Clay came out with his. I based it on the CCK offered by DFA. I used similar fittings, but came up with my own design for the orifice in the Tee fitting. I used an ~.010 carb emulsion jet and can be easily installed. Clay's is a well designed kit and it requires no cutting of the return line, unlike the version I have. I have been thinking of converting it to a RR system with a little replumbing and adding the regulator.
