My E4OD in my '95 F2504x4 PSD is completley wasted. Been on its way out for the last 20,000 miles. I know the cooler should be replaced, as well as the TC. Usually what is the cheaper way to go, have it rebuilt (stock replacement) or just replaced?? Money is really tight now and I need my truck.
Steve
The cheap way out will end up being the most expensive way out in the long run. I would get a quality tranny and be done with it for life. BTS has a lifetime bullet proof one but not cheap. Get a cheap one now and then get another one down the road when that one breaks.
I have a rebuilt tranny in my truck from my main man Charles and its a BMF i really like it alot. We spent 1 day of lathe time turning down the vaccum plates and drums to fit extra clutches in them and put red racing clutches in it. I really like it alot. But as for time i dunno how long it will last. I hope it last a long time. But for sure if you tranny is trashed up really bad your gonna need to have it hot flushed and cleaned out. Just my 2 cents
Neal how much does a BTS Tranny cost? couldn't find it on the website
Last time I checked it was over $5000 + S&H, over $1000 was for the torque converter alone. If you can get to his shop the installation is free and there would be no S&H.
If you have the mechanical ability, you can pick up the parts to rebuild it yourself at racerxautomotive.com ... but that requires some downtime. that way you can have high quality at reasonable price.
I just had a guy put in a re-maunfactured trans in my 97 f-350 for $1600.00 this weekend. I highly dought that the truck will outlive the trans now. He could have re-built the trans but I decided to have him drop another one in.

Was that just the install, just the tranny or both?
it seems awful cheap.
BTS trannys can run anywhere from 3500 -6000 depending on the level of build. the 3500$ one will cover 99% of people. if you're doing more truck mods, i'd look into the 4-4500 range.
Or spend 1800-2000 at racer x and have your truck down for a week-two weeks. depending on your abilities.
BTS doesn't have different prices for different builds. He builds them all the same from what I understand and makes changes to the valve body depending on mods. But the price is the same no matter what. The difference in prices that you are are some quote just the trans, some talk about installed, some talk about shipped.
Mine was a re-manufactured trans from Ford. Install and trans for $1600.00. Two year warranty from installer. If you live in Michigan you can get the same price from this guy, he works out of pole barn all set up to do two vehicles at a time with hoists and all. This is all he does. He told me he can get many transmissions that were re-mans. I guess some guys like to do that kind of work, not me. I gave him my truck Friday morning and got it back Sunday.
I just talked to Brian at BTS yesterday because I'm considering his tranny. He usually builds only one version of his tranny and says it's good for 800hp. The hydraulic pressure is adjusted according to the power level of your truck. He does build a few trannies with even beefier parts for trucks up around 1000hp, but the tranny he generally builds is gauranteed for the 800hp, with basically a lifetime warranty. As of now there is a couple week wait time to have one built. The complete tranny is $4100 installed, or it can be shipped out to you and it will have a $1000 core charge until your old tranny is sent back.
