A4od vs. E4od ?
Can anyone tell me the difference between the two?

Check a little closer. The transmissions to which I think you are referring are the AOD and E4OD. I doubt that an F350 came with an AOD, I don't know. I bet you are looking at an E4OD or maybe a C6. Is it a 3-speed or a 4-speed?
We used to have a tech article about transmission identification. It had pictures and bolt counts and made it easy. Look around you may find the article.
There is also an AODE, pretty much the same trans but with an electronically operated overdrive gear and also has 14 bolts around the pan.
The E4OD has 20 bolts around the pan and all of them are 4-speed electronic overdrive. To my knowlege, the E4OD did not show up in F350's untill '92, but it came in F150's as early as '89.
The C6 is a 3-speed auto with no overdrive and has 17 bolts around the pan.
To my knowlege, the only auto trans to come in F350's of these years ('92-'97) are the C6 and the E4OD. The C6 came in earlier models as well. Your '89 F350 should have a C6 automatic in it, unless someone swapped a different transmission into it. The trans code on the driver's door sticker is 'G' for the C6 and 'E' for the E4OD.
