I was told by the mechanic at the dealer that i needed new rear rotors, due to a rotational noise i have after they replaced the rear axle seal. Said I never heard it because it was packed full of grease. Now that the seal is fixed and rotor is clean, its making a new noise that disappears when i apply the brake. They assured me it was not a wheel bearing as i suspected.
they want $80 a rotor and hour shop time to replace.
I called NAPA...they have them in stock. But they needed to know if i had 12 0r 14mm wheel studs. What are they asking for? just the length? can this be determined thru vin or something or do i have to take the wheel off measure the length and put wheel back on and goto NAPA???
Thanks in advance...
mks
The rotors on this truck are expensive all around, so I do not doubt that that is a fair price for them....I'm not 100% where the difference is in the wheel stud sizes, but I am one to assume it's the trucks that come factory with bigger wheels/engines (lightnings/harleys) My is a run of the mill 01 v6 5 spd it has the 12mm studs. the rotors were abouts $70 a piece for the rears at AZ
I am 95% sure you have 14mm, since you have rear discs which were only on trucks from '99 which is the same year they went to 14mm studs, but I have seen some disagreement of when in '99 they switched. 14mm is the diameter BTW. So if you have a '00 or newer I guarantee they are 14mm.

and so I am unable to determine how to get the rear rotor off this 2000 F150>>\
Do you need special tools? How the heck do you go about taking off the caliper to get at the rotor???
thanks
