Where did you mount your brake control?

I have an '04 Lariat Screw with console shift. I need to install my Prodigy brake control but haven't decided where to put it. I don't want it permanently mounted, ie. holes in interior, so I'm going to use industrial velcro.

Where have you mounted your brake control for best access?

look at this link.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-location.html
it was for how i installed my cb but if you look in the 3rd picture down in the lower left corner you can see where i mounted it. i used screws only because the guy who owned it before me had some starter kill thing screwed there so when i took it out i had some holes that i wanted to cover up....i am not a fan of holes in my truck either.

There is a little metal plate attached to the bottom of the dash beside the emergency brake release that seems to be there for no apparent reason. It is a good place to put the Prodigy. I did it almost 3 years ago and it has not bothered me at all. You take the plastic mounting bracket that comes with the Prodigy and drill 2 little holes in the bracket and mount it. The controller will snap in and out of it if you want to remove it for any reason. Takes about 15 minutes (counting getting the drill out) , causes no damage and you would never know it was ever there if you decide to remove it.

I totally agree with osbornk! That is where I put my controller. Perfect spot, out of the way, easy to get at, and adjust. I too thought that bracket was usless, but just maybe that is why it is there! Never know anything was there when you go to remove it!

I have an 06', and moutned it on the plate that held the CPU plu. Now that ius attached via zip tie and prodigy in it's place. I will be looking for this other plate next t o the e brake as mine is mounted directly under the steering column and may make for difficult reach when in need.

Well, I took the advice of a few and used the existing plate. I'll see if I'm happy with it there or not, but until I decide, it's staying there.

Thanks for the advice!

I mounted my brake controller at the bottom of the dash, below and to the left of the steering column. This allows me room to stretch my left leg out in between the controller and the parking brake. I installed this on my 2004 Lariat SCrew in May 2004 and it has worked fine.

I put mine to the left of the steering column and don't like it..my leg bumps it when I stretch out. I will be moving it to the right. Just my .02 worth...

I beg to differ on mounting it to the plate uder the L/S of the dash. It may be easy, but you'll never be able to find it should you need to use the manual lever for the trailer brakes. Granted thats not a common occurance, but it could happen. It's just too low there and not practical to reach and still be able to see the road. Mine is mounted in the little cubby that you don't have, since I have the column shift. It took some drilling, and hole sawing!, but it came out good. If I ever get rid of it, the little cubby is a seperate part and can be replaced easily. If I need to drill, I always look for something that is small and easy to replace, should my mind ever change. The little metal braket on mine holds a two way disable switch so I can completely kill my PIAA lights for inspection purposes, since thats something nobody needs to see, it's hidden nicely with no extra holes.

The point you make is exactly my concern. I am really thinking of using Velcro to mount it to the dash just below the headlight switch. I have a Prodigy controller and intend to use the cradle so I can take the controller out and use it in another vehicle.

I used velcro and mounted it to the right of the steering column a few inches above the bottom of the dash face where the computer connector is. It's totally out of the way.

I have the same truck. I wanted the OEM look so I waited until I found the Prodigy P3 with front controls. I am going to take this and mount it next to the cigarette lighter. I still have to get the plastic panel with the cigarette lighter hole off to one side or none at all.

Why wouldn't you be able to find it? It's easy to reach and out in the open. It's not under the dash once it is mounted. Over the years, I've had about half a dozen mounted in that area on numerous trucks and never had a problem finding or using them (some of the older controllers needed attention all the time).

I mounted mine where the factory intended, on the little metal extension under the dash by the parking brake. I can see the display just fine and I can reach it quickly if necessary.
