Brake Controller Mouting Pictures?

I just placed an order for a Tekonsha P3 brake controller to be mounted in my new to me Super Duty. I know a lot of you guys have P3's and Prodigy's on here and I was wondering if you guys had pictures of yours mounted? If so would you mind sharing?

I just want to know where I can mount it and at what angle.

Any advice/pictures are much appreciated!

Thanks!

Directly under the cubby hole works real well for me.

As with any inertia activated brake controller, be VERY careful of the angle you mount it at!

I used a Prodigy brake controller on my last truck, and I had it mounted in a similar fashion. It worked pretty well on level ground, as it was mounted just within the angle requirements, but this was a real problem coming down a hill! Steep declines put the controller at a near vertical position and I almost went into several deer at the base of a hill with a loaded trailer. Hit the brakes hard and had absolutely NO trailer brakes! Nearly locked up the truck, but it took forever to stop. Will never mount a brake controller like that again.

Fortunately I don't have to with my new truck, but something to keep in mind if you are planning on mounting one. I highly suggest finding a way to keep it as close to level as possible.

Good point Tom. If I remember correctly, my Prodigy (maybe newer ones?) does not have the level mount requirement. But sure is important to know for your particular model.

Correct, that's one of the big features they like to tout, the fact that it doesn't have to be level! However, there's a difference between being close to level and near vertical, which is how it ended up being on my F150. Very similar to that picture I saw 1975StroppeBaja posted.

In the owner's guide for the Prodigy it mentioned the mounting tolerances. I think it can be up to 30 or 40 degrees off level, if I remember correctly. Mine was close to that mounting limit, and sometimes it just wasn't consistent. If I were to do it all over again without the IBC I have now, I'd try and mount it somewhere on top of the dash, and get it as level as possible.

Mounting angle is definitely a good point! For some models for sure, but the Prodigy is pretty forgiving.

The installation instructions for the Prodigy here:

http://www.tekonsha.com/product/pdf/N90185.pdf

state that it can be mounted up to 70degrees off zero. When I decided to mount mine there I held it in place by hand, and then tipped it up until the upper bars flashed and it was quite a ways away from this angle, so I felt pretty good about it. So far so good with the mountains I deal with around here.

on my 05 i mounted right where the factory brake controller would have been.right beside the aux switches, there is a removable pocket, on the back of the pocket is there ford wires for the controller too. i just used a dremel tool to cut a big enough hole in the back for the wires to run through

Here are pics of my P3 mounted on my 04'.(I made the mount) I can reach it with the seatbelt on and I have my seat all the way back. You should like the P3, very easy to use and works great. For mounting just make shure the controll is paralell with the doors/side of the truck and not crooked. The face can be tipped up or down quite a bit. Just read the mounting instructions that come with the kit. Also may want to watch the included tiny DVD.

Same idea as the above pics, but just a little bit lower, and a bit more level.

Also mine is mounted on the the fuse panel cover, take the cover off, mount the controller, and put the panel back on, super easy.

Mounted mine the cubby hole as well. I used the braket though. Velcro would have been a better way to go.
