Cab noise reduction?

Hi there,

what can I do to avoid the cab of my '41 pick-up to act like a bass drum?
What would you recommend in terms of noise and temperature insulation?

I was thinking about some mats that can be made to stick to the floor, firewall and the back of the cab.

Should anything be inserted between the headliner and the cab?

The outside door inner skins have a coating that is dry and brittle, but I refrained to remove it as I don't know how to replace it.

Any suggestions?

Gab.

Well Gab, there are several places that sell kits for this purpose. http://www.dynamat.com/ is one of them. Other folks can probably add to this. You can get catalogs from some of these places. You might try this web site and take a look at some of the products. If you want something a little cheaper you can go to to a fabric store and buy foam and stick it on your self and there are other materials also. I've read that by strategically placing strips of foam in certain places will make a big difference,

Dynamat is a good option, like mentioned above. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. And I don't think it will hold moisture like other products. Stay away from anything that will hold moisture, easrly Mustangs used a material that tended to retain moisture, I know, I've dealt with this on my '70 Mustang. The material on the doors is asphalt type material, you can scrap it and replace it with a piece of Dynamat, it'll be much better. Add some to the floor, rear cab panels, and roof, it'll help. Nice thing about Dynamat is that you do not have to completly cover the whole cab. There are also knock offs of Dynamat as well, and a little bit cheap I think.

I coated the floors of my 1963 Pontiac with POR 15 and used Dynamat under the new rug kit. It made a huge difference.

I think anything you do has to help. I used a cheaper alternative to Dynamat called Fatmat http://www.fatmat.com/. It was much cheaper, so I covered the ENTIRE interior of my 1934 Ford truck cab. I also used it under my fenders to prevent from starring the paint. So far after 1 summer on the road, no problems with it not sticking to the roof (which was a real concern to me).
Good luck

Bob

Even if it did fall some 3m super 77 adhesive would put it right back on.
