I would go with 16s cause There have been lots of problems with 16.5s smaller beads and the tire can get poped off the bead alot easier than any other size. Just what I have heard.
for a 15 wide tire,I would go with atleast a 12 wide rim, or even 14.

Yeah...the 16.5 wheels are not good at all for holding beads. I would stick with a 16x12 wheel.

is this truck going to be a pavement pounder, or a mainly offroad truck? if its for the road, get a wider rim, as it will make the tires wear better, if you plan on mainly being offroad, get a skinnier rim, it will help hold the tire on the rim, but if you run a skinny rim on the road alot it will wear the middle of the tire more.

16.5s smaller beads
it's not so much the fact of a smaller bead, it's that the bead on a 16.5 is angled a about 45 degrees- where a 16" is straight up and down bead so the surface area is greater... if you run a 16" wheel and a 15" wide tire you can go as narrow as 8" or so.. the tire jockeys don't like you but you can air them dowm and they won't break a bead without some serious effort... i run 38.5x15 boggers on 16x8 wheels and haven't lost a bead yet- and hae been down to as low as 8 pounds in the tires...

well i got the tires cheap and my truck has 16.5 stock wheels and i was thinking that could i use my stock rims and if i get some extra cash i was going to buy new rims but thats a ways down the road. and searching the net i found out that for the tsl radial 38x15x16.5 the Tread Width is 11.50 in and the Recommended Rim Width 9.75 in. but will the stock rim width work

they will work.....may rub on the leaf springs....and you will have to air them down a good bit to get proper wear if you driveit on the road. other than that they will work great for holding a "bead"
