Dash and gauge swap

So my good ol f150 didn't come with a tach but I installed a cheap aftermarket one that broke. So I was on the Craigslist yesterday and found a blue dash that matches mine and isn't broken but the gauge cluster is included and it has a tach. So is it possible to use the gauge cluster with the tach or not? I can drive it without its just nice to know the rpms.

You can, but take apart both clusters, and use the tach in your original cluster, that way you keep your mileage intact.

Yes, just try to get a cluster from a truck close to, or the same year as yours. Certain years had some slight differences to the way they are wired.

Each of the instruments can be pulled out of the cluster separately. The temp, oil press, speedo...all come out. So you can keep your speedo when installing the new one.

My truck started without a tach but I added it - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

What year is the truck?

If it's a 87 to 91 you can swap the cluster into your truck, BUT the ole mechanical speedo will not be swap-able between tach and non tach clusters as non tach speedo is wider than the tach speedo.

If yours a 92 and up truck, then as long as its:
92 to 93 plug and play
94 to 95 plug and play
96 to 97(hd trucks only) plug and play

You can then swap out the speedomter(PSOM) between the tach and non tach clusters.

Ok, quick question. Is the cluster dated somewhere to confirm what year it fits? Can you go by the date code on the PC board? Hate to rely on an Ebay ad to be correct if you know what I mean. Going to check my local yard to see if they have any first.

Checked the extra '87-'91 cluster I have in a box. No date code that I could find.

There is a part number on the printed circuit. The first digit is the decade it was designed in, and the second digit is the year in that decade. Ie. F2='92, F3='93, F4='94, etc.

No there is not a 100% way to tell.
I just when down and checked a stack of clusters I have and this is what I found out.
For example the clusters printed circuit out of my 1994 F53 titled 1995 has a F2 on the printed circuit.
Another cluster I have is out of a 96 F250 and that printed circuit does start with an F6.
Another cluster from a 1995 F150 cluster printed circuit starts with an F4.

So it sounds like a real cluster(bad pun) trying to get the right cluster.......

Or does it not really matter?

I have swapped out gauges on my '89 using parts from a couple '87 - '91 trucks. The gauges worked fine. It might make a difference on the later electronic clusters.

as long as you get the proper part it will not mater.
86 and older. 87 to 91. and 92 to 97.
it is pretty easy to see what you are getting, as all three are different.
pre 86 looks like this:
Ford 1980 Truck F150 Bronco Dash Cluster Gauges Speedometer 1981 1982 | eBay
87 to 91:
1989 1990 Ford F150 F250 Truck 6K Tach Speedo Cluster | eBay
92-97:
1992 93 1994 1995 96 FORD F150 F350 F250 BRONCO GAS GAUGE CLUSTER WITH TACH XLT

For the OP:
Only clusters from a 1994 or 1995 would be plug and play.
All of the rest would need the wires in the plugs swapped.
The part number on the printed circuit would be F4TF-10C956-C for a 1994 or 1995 with a tachometer.

Now I just looked on Ebay,
92 93 94 95 96 Ford Bronco F150 Speedometer Instrument Gauge Cluster wth Tach | eBay

Found one with the correct board number, but you can see the actual part number was different.

You mention the board number, so this would be the right cluster.
