Radiator

Where can I get a new radiator for my stock truck? Most places I have looked are for street rod applications. I am still running a flat head engine. Might try aluminum, mine has a couple of holes in it and by the time I take it in and get it cleaned and fixed, I just might as well get a new one, any help would be great. thanks Gary

Welcome to FTE

They are available if a little spendy for brass compared with overseas aluminium. Maybe $600 to $700?

Or even a little less, maybe $500? They make them to order 32-57 trucks, two week lead time, New three row brass

Poke around at http://www.cgfordparts.com

Welcome to FTE!

Mid Fifty carries them.

This is for the Flathead V8: 1953-54 Ford F-100 Radiator Flat Head 2&2, Straight Outlets - 8005

You might find them cheaper, but I don't think you'll find better service.

I just had my radiator serviced locally. It has the original tanks but, it had been re cored back in 1996. Has a 4 row core.

The shop manager told me about $500 to re core to high efficiency 4 row core if mine was no good.

It was ok and was $90 to rod it out. Looks new. Maybe all yours needs is a good clean.

I think Champion Radiators sells a stock upgrade for about $250

I had mine recored (4-row) 12 years ago, before copper went crazy. It was about $150... But nothing compares to copper. It's repairable, it cools best. Many of the cheaper aluminum radiators can't be rodded out, have glued-on tanks, etc. Truly a case of getting what you pay for.

Champion has to customize their '53-'56 radiator for the flathead V8. It's around $370 +shipping.

I find a lot of stuff on Craigslist.
I bought a spare F1 radiator today that was once recored, and it came with a shroud for $30. It will need to be roded and cleaned.
I must say it is noticeably lighter than the original Ford radiator I have. Locally it cost about $175 to rod and clean.
All this to say go with a copper core, and if you can save your original I think it is a good investment.
Your radiator guy should be able to assess the deterioration, leaks are not an issue unless the core is rotten.

Looking at radiators, I see 3 core and 4 core......what exactly does that mean?

More rows of tubes create more cooling area. Pictured is a 4 row core. Plenty of cooling for our F1, my rebuilt engine cools very well and I haven't installed the shroud yet.

I've been running a champion aluminum radiator since early this year. It was about $200. I've no complaints thus far.
