01 7.3 scanner not communicating w pcm
Ok I've got an 01 7.3 and the scanner I'm using won't connect to the pcm. I had it remanned and put it back on still nothing. Took the idm out and swapped it for a buddies. Still nothing. All fuses are good. Scanner communicates with every other module EXCEPT the pcm. It was shutting down on my way to my mechanics place but starting right back up. Flashing wait to start and water in fuel lights. Also would shut my overdrive off. Any ideas?

If I'm reading it right we have two problems. First the scanner cannot connect to the PCM, and the truck shuts off randomly, but other electric works, and it restarts. If that's not right please tell us more.
Just to rule it out, disconnect the fuel heater harness, replace the fuse, and leave harness disconnected.
For the shut down issue the first suspect is the CPS. Next would be intermittent power or bad grounds to the PCM. Check grounds high on driver side firewall and high on DS fender, near air filter. Power splice underneath air cleaner on wheel well liner seems to be a frequent issue recently. Switch the PCM and fan relays, maybe one is weak. I went thru all that to find a bad ignition switch was the culprit on mine.
Electrical problems can suck, but keep at it, we'll help you sort this out.

My 00' does the same things cant connect to pcm, kept dying and restarting. Blew pcm diode, replaced and now no WTS light anymore. A fused are good. Subscribing.
