My ongoing truck probs continue. I had all the CPS related issues, put in a new CPS, still the same probs. Scanned the truck, p1280 and p1298 came up. I brought it to a shop to check for shorts before I replaced anything. He said the PCM and IDM are shot. I found the guy in Florida with the reman $199 IDMs (beats $800-900 for a Ford one). Could the bad IDM be tripping the PCM?
PCM controls the IDM. Since you can get codes I would think, IMO, the PCM is working. I would be looking at the IDM.
Have you taken the IDM out of the truck and check for water damage. By that I mean shake it and listen for water intrusion. Can't tell you many times on here that is the issue. I have not looked at your past posts so maybe you have already done this.
I'm gonna swap IDMs with my brother-in-laws truck ('97 PSD) before I buy one. Should I clear the codes before I start it after the swap? or just keep the batteries disconnected for a while?

Not good. I have noticed when the IDM goes it wont start. I have noticed when CPS goes it shuts off intermitently until it won't start at all. I haven't found what the PCM does when it goes. The IDM or CPS could go bad w/no power, I guess but I haven't seen it.
Huge lack of power, engine cutting out for a second while driving, random stalling
Have you got access to a scanner for some live data while driving ?..EOT sensor can cause that ,along with ICP sensor & IPR ...Need data to narrow it down

Not sure if it was scanned on the road, but I doubt it.
So my wife followed me home from the shop today, about 10 miles. Truck stalled three times, and the motor cut out about 3 times at one point, and blew out a ton of black smoke at the tailpipe, but I floored it and it kept moving. Once I was on my street the check engine light went off, and it ran perfect. I swapped IDMs with my brother in laws truck ('97 PSD), and the same probs. Engine stalled, check engine light still on. I'm ready to give up.
