Heads and fuel injectors

I enclosed pictures of the heads I just pulled from 1991 4.0 ohv ranger. Before I replace them with new or remanufactured heads I would like to figure out if there is anything else that might be going on with the engine that might be causing the difference in the color of the different pairs of valves...what do you think?
#3 cylinder is where the head gasket was leaking coolant and small crack between intake and exhaust seats.
#4 has a crack between intake and exhaust seats.

Also ...is there a way to check the injectors while I have them out...Can I jump them electrically maybe hook up a fuel source to it to see it spray? Bring them somewhere to get checked?

If any of my cars are over 100k miles and I have the engine apart, I take the fuel injectors to a shop to get checked/cleaned. The shop will do a flow test, clean the injectors with an ultrasonic cleaner, then re-check the flow, replace the pintle caps and filter baskets and give me new o-rings. They also do an electrical test, which is nothing more than checking the coil resistance. You could do this with a DMM.

I used to take my injectors to a place call Evergreen Carburetor back in the day. They were a lot cheaper than anyone else but they went out of business about 5 (maybe more) years ago. Now I use a place called Dr. Injector. These shops are all in the Seattle area. I paid about $22/injector. You should be able to find something in your area if you just search for fuel injector cleaners or check with someone knowledgeable at one of you local parts stores. Maybe try Napa?

If you get your injectors cleaned and the shop provides you with the before and after results, it may shed some light on the color difference you're asking about.

Good advice, I will search for a place. Thanks.

I had some plugs that looked like these valves and I then found I had some dirty injectors. Had mine cleaned once and then started having problems about 2 summers ago it was missing on accell. Reid the whole ignition system took truck to a shop they confirmed all I did was good said the injectors were in fair shape. Still had the miss! Anyhow I bought NEW injectors from autozone and installed them and the miss went away, plugs look good. The other guy siad he pair $22 for clean up of the injectors I only paid I think it was $35 for new ones! When I had my originals cleaned they lasted around 50000 miles before I ran into the problem I described.
