I had a customer today and he told me 6.7L contaminated DEF (diesel)repetitive problem (like every 3 months...he said), he said we couldn't fix it, another dealer told him they found a bad motor (cracked block?) was letting the diesel get into his DEF...???
I thought DEF went into exhaust system and only way to get diesel contamination was to take off cap and pour it in. the diesel in the engine has no way to get into the DEF tank and the only time DEF and diesel are anywhere near each other is being fed into exhaust from different source lines... Am I wrong??
Truckie, I can't think of any way to possibly get diesel into the Def other than simly putting it in the Def tank by accident. Or vandalism.
You are correct, Def only gets injected in the Exhaust system, not in the motor.
Wow, that makes no sense at all. Def is housed in a separate tank and is only routed to the exhaust. The only thing engine-related I can think of, doesn't ford route coolant to the DEF tank for defrosting purposes? But other than that, there's no interface between diesel and DEF except in the decomposition chamber where the DEF is injected into the exhaust stream.....
Or is this the case where DEF is getting into the diesel tank? If so, I'd also be a little lost on how that's happening aside from somebody pouring DEF straight into the diesel tank.
Either way, a cracked block/bad motor would not cause diesel to flow into the DEF tank.

Coolant isn't routed to the DEF tank. Sounds like a misfuel error on someone's part.
