Being that I'm still new to the forums, I haven't read everything, but this is something I have been searching all over for and not found. I have an oil leak that "looks like" it could be a rear main seal. However, what i've read is that the 7.3 L diesels very rarely have this problem and its usually something else. So, my questions is, what are the most common oil leaks on the 7.3? I have to do some more digging into mine. it leaks about 1 drop /day. So my question is, is there a thread on this that I"m missing? Please chime in and leave me your .02!
Thanks in advance!
BTW, if it makes a difference, I have a 2000 EX 4x4 w/ 201500 miles
I'd take a look deep into the valley of the motor. One of 2 things you might see, are some oilmost likey from bad o-rings on the turbo/pedistal or fuek from the fuel bowl. I thought i had an oil leak(thursday last week) and it turned out to be a fuel leak that was loosing up some cruded up oil from previous leak i had't had the chance to clean off.
They tend to drip slowly and leak down the back of the heads looking like a rear main leak. Clean out the valley really good and go for a drive. When you get back shut it off and take a moirror and a flashlight and start hunting
I'll be checking into it this weekend. I've noticed it enough that I won't park it in my garage and driveway, but its not a problem and i wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere right now cause the leak is so slow. After reading, I didn't think it was the rear main, so i'll have to check all these suggestions and see what I can find!
