I got a 2000 7.3 that cant seem to build any boost over 12-15 pounds. I just happen recently. I have pressure checked the cold side and it holds. I thought it could be the waste gate so I wired it shut. and it still wont build any above 12-15. I have a edge turner, gauges, 6.0 inter-cooler, boost fooler, turbo master, banks intake and 4" turbo back. I normally build around 20+ at WOT. Now it builds like normal but when it gets to 12-15 psi it blows it out. (loud shush). Could some one plese help me figure out this thing? I have it for sale and need to fix it before it goes.
thanks
Check (all) the boots. With the sound you describe, it must be leaking somewhere. Also poke around that 6.0 IC. The plastic end caps sometimes leak, or actually pop. Others will have more ideas.
I just put the 6.0 ic on since I had one laying around. New boots and new ic. Thinking it would fix thr problem. It didn't. And it still does it with either one. Could the ebp flaper have anything to do with it? I unhooked it and no change but it seems like its a hot side problem.
I'm surprised some of the more seasoned guys haven't chimed in yet, but try wiring open the ebpv. and see what happens. If its closing after the truck is up to temp, I wouldn't think it would make the 12-15lbs you are seeing. Anyway this reply will bump you up. Hang in there and you'll get help here, and welcome to the 99-03 forum. If you sell it, I hope its because you have your eye on another 7.3.
What do your uppipes look like? That's typically a big boost killer if they're leaking.
I recently had a boost leak that occurred after Mueckster and I rebuilt my turbo. I could HEAR the air escaping when accelerating, but couldn't find the leak. Turned out it was the fit of the spider to the turbo...it wasn't locked into place, and I could feel the air escaping from the clamp. Once I unclamped it and locked it into place, problem solved.
Stinky developed a leak at the intake plenum that would only show up at higher boost levels, that's another place to look. Have you done the boost leak detector with a spray bottle on everything boost related?
I have done a boost leak test already and covered everything. This morning the transmission just quite on me. Running about 45 mph and the nothing.... could the 2 problems be related to each other? the trains was replace about 30,000 miles ago and ever had a problem. I think it is more electrical???????
thanks
