Hi..I am new owner of a 2000 7.3 4x4 auto drw f350.I am also new to the site and I am not sure I'm in the right forum (before joining I seen things posted in 1999-2003 7.3 section but couldn't find it)..anyways I have installed glowshift gauges and I have 0 boost until above 2500 rpm, it will then build 5-6 pounds....I am tapped into map sensor line...
I discover a big tear in the IC boot and ordered a new set from riffraff today...truck runs/starts fine..also have just installed 4" turbo back exhaust,6637 intake kit, and ts chip...my question is could that be causing me to lose that much boost?and will it hur to drive it like it is until new boots come in...by the way CEL is not on....thanks again and sorry for such a long post

To answer your question, yes, a tear in the boot constitutes a boot leak, and will cause low/no boost. Once you get the new boots on, and clamps tightened up, check again. What are your EGTs?
Yes, a tear in an I.C. boot can cause a huge loss in boost. Driving it with a leak that big would not be a good idea. EGT's can go very high very fast. Not to mention you now have a leak in the intake system. If dirt gets in there, it will get in your motor. I would fix it before driving it if possible.
I babied the truck until I got the gauges BC I was afraid I would hurt the trans and/or engine. But now that they are installed regular mid throttle runs produce 800-1000 EGTs. I actually thought maybe the gauge was bad until my buddies worn out skipping 7.3 dually will spin the tires and he has factory exhaust and intake with a chip (I know bad idea).mine won't even spin them on gravel...I'm not in to racing by no means, just new to a 7.3 and wanting to get her right before pulling my camper.. Thanks again for ur help
