OBD won't read, won't start 6.0

I turn the key and all the gauges work but the dreaded wrench stays lit and no injector cycling, fuel pump activation or anything but the gauges. OBD Scan gauge and my PLX OBD both say "connecting" but never connect. Tried the yellow wire trick and got it to crank but it won't run. Help

Might be the fan clutch?

Key in the ignition, turn it to let the glow plugs do their thing, none of the usual sounds like pumps and injectors, dash looks active, turn the key fully to crank the engine and not a peep ... total silence. Is that what you have?

Oh ... and last time you drove it everything was fine until you went to start it this time? That's how mine went.

Thanks for the posts!

Yes.

Same as what I've got.

The 20, 40, and 103 fuses were fine. Pulled them and did a visual.

My OBD readers, a ScanGauge II and a PLx, both just say "Connecting" and wont connect or read.

Sure appreciate the help. I can't believe there isn't an easy way to reset the "limp mode" and get rid of the "yellow wrench".

Here is my thread on my issue. I had it brought to a shop because I thought it might be a tranny range sensor, which is something I couldn't replace in my driveway.

The fan clutch I could have done myself had I known that was the culprit. Oh well live and learn. Maybe you can benefit from my experience and then pay it forward later. That's how this site works.

6.0 won't crank

Thanks for the reply. What is the best way to diagnose a bad fan clutch?

Last time I looked at one I think the radiator has to be pulled? Is there an easy fix?

Visual check of the fuse is not good enough. You really need to use a meter.
Also you should check the power distribution from the battery ie fusible links
and other basic troubleshooting steps for power issues. The fact that you are not
connection the SGII tells me that there is not any power coming from the ECM.
You also want to verify that the ECM is getting power and has a good grounds.

Do you have any access to other scan tools? Snap-on would be a good pick.
If you can get your hands on the wiring diagrams for your year and model of truck
If you happen to have a 2006 F-series let me know and I will look and my
diagrams and try to post some PDF's for you to work from.
Gets your hands on a meter. Check power to ground at each
fuse after you make sure the fuses are good. Check the connectors are clean and plugged in

I used to be a top troubleshooter and still am for the most part.

I'd be the last member on here to want anyone to throw a $300 - $400 part at any problem. Didn't mean to send him off on an expensive shopping trip.

Underhammersdotcom - if you answer the questions cheezit asks, or provide him the info he's looking for you'll almost definitely get it solved. There's a few Ford techs on here who really know their stuff and provide great help and their time. Cheezit is one of them.

the fix for my no crank 6.0

After racking my brain, going through I don't know how many posts on this site and other, going through both fuse boxes, disconnecting all the wires I had connected doing the tests above and having nothing improve the situration I went through and pulled each fuse and tested it with my continuity tester on the multi meter. Found one that looked good but didn't beep. #22. Upon further inspection there was a little spot. My eyse have gotten old and I just plain missed it. Of course I recommend pulling all fuses and checking them with the meter from now on. Thank you guys for all your perseverance!
