Looks like the jokes on me anyway since I have to tear my dad's truck down to the timing set due to a leaking gasket behind the front cover. Thing's pissing about half a quart of coolant each day. Just haven't had the time to deal with it yet.

There are lots of the 6.2s and 5s still on the road up here, they never impressed me except for mileage, which is impressive.

I'm curious to get this one finished to see how it does performance wise, as all I have ever messed with were 3/4 ton ones and I thought they were lacking for a work rig.

Only way I would bother with a 6.2 is in a half ton frame of some sort. Although after seeing my 6000lb truck getting over 24 MPG I am wondering if the ~400lb lower weight is really worth it compared to a 6.9. Has me mulling over the idea of putting an IDI in my F150 with similar gearing of my current diesel.

We did a head gasket job on my dad's 6.5 some 6 or 7 years ago and what struck me was how light the heads were and every single devider wall between the valves had small cracks in them but supposedly thats "normal" so long as it doesn't reach the valve seats - eek. Made me wonder if my 302 had more metal in them lol. Try picking up a 6.9 head after that.

David I have wanted to, and some day will install a 6.9 in a half ton (4X4 of course).
I think topping 25 with plenty of ***** will not be out of the picture.

I started a recent thread on that called "dream MPG build" where I go into some detail on my ideas.

Since mine can already barely touch 25 MPG I think 30 MPG is within reach for a 2wd F150 even with an automatic transmission though I realize most here prefer the 3rd pedal.

Even without a turbo it should have plenty of ***** and be able to get great fuel economy for a nice "heavy-half" pickup. I rarely use the payload capacity in my diesel as it is anyway. The F150s of this era have a pretty nice ride too.

A regular cab should be able to do it easily but I wonder if my extra cab long box F150 could do it - there has to be a gain over the taller F250 platform but I wonder how much it would be..... Right now its already a good 1500 lbs lighter than my F250 and thats with a canopy and heavy 100L propane bottle in it. I wonder if I could keep the weight under 4500lbs even after a diesel is in it....

with propane you would have no problem getting 45mpg. but you gotta remember that the you are still burning propane at 2/3 the energy of diesel. so unless your propane is less then 2/3 the price then your not gonna be saving anything.

I've never tried propane injection so I have no idea what that could do. From what I read however it doesn't work as well with a non turbo since it displaces oxygen from the intake stream. Don't know about 45 MPG though....

I'd put a 6.2L in my Jeep in place of the Ramjet 350. Then I'd sell the Ramjet. Isn't the 6.2L based on a SBC?

It has similarities but the 6.2 didn't start out as a gasser and converted like so many think.

ya, the way it works is adds fuel, requiring you to do one of two things. either turn your ip down and burn less diesel, OR turn up your boost WAY UP giving more power and needing less go peddle. the more propane you run, the less diesel you need. so, you can easily get 45mpg diesel, but only 15mpg propane. since propane has 2/3 the british thermal units, then you will naturally replace 20 gallons diesel with 30 gallons of propane.

I was thinking more along the lines of transmission options, bell housings, bolt patterns, block layout, etc.
