Flip, some half ton's aren't that stout though. For instance, I jokingly call my F-150 an F-100 - it's a light duty F-150. I'm rated to haul a mere 800 lbs and tow 4,000. 400 lbs and my bed begins to squat.
When it comes down to it you have to know your own truck, what it's rated for and what it can safely take in real world conditions.
I understand that. Read your data plate. Do the math.
You should be able to haul 1400lbs in the bed. I got a light duty truck now and Ive laid over a thousand in her.
Oh, I have too. I've hauled wet wood chippings loaded by a front loader and I've hauled over 1,000 lbs in cinder block - not counting my tool box and junk. I've also pulled 7,000 lbs and I use my truck to pull small trees out of the ground and misc objects up our little hill. It's not like I don't over-load the truck so don't missunderstand!
I tell you what though man if I can help it my next truck with be a 3/4 ton. 300 / ZF and 3.55's would be my ideal rig!
