I have a 2002 F-150 4.6L 4wd ext. cab and I recently found out that my ball joint in the front left wheel. I know this needs to be replaced but I wast told that the only way to replace the joint is to replace the control arm. Which arm do I need to replace lower or upper.Aslo if there is any possibility to tell me the part number. I would also like some good sites to price out theses parts.
no, the lower arms are o.k., you press out the ball joint and press in a new one. most will wear out in 20k miles. If you want a good one buy MOOG... the upper ball is part of the A frame. you replace the ball and the A frame as a unit.
Everyone is right ! I know I'm in the minority but I figure while I'm at it , it's not that much more work or money to replace the lower a-frame bushings. The uppers are new, why shouldn't the lowers be also. I know alot of people say they don't get much wear. I just figure that that bolt running through the center has to do some damage as many times as the arm pivots up and down. But that's just me. lol
P.S. Definitly use MOOG parts.
