1999 Ranger, 3.0, 2x4, 79,000 miles. Is it true I have to replace the whole control arm assembly? I have the original upper control arm that is tubular steel. Some say the Moog part is sturdier and that next replacement you can pop out the ball joint and replace it alone and save money. Do I have to bite the bullet and buy the whole thing for $110 plus per side? All the parts sites show just the Right side arm and no Left. Are they the same?
yah the upper balljoints on my 2001 were part of the whole upper control arm.147.00 dollars apiece. was responding to a car accident in my truck and hit a huge monster sized pothole that sent my truck 2 feet into the air and i bent all 4 balljoints. im a volly firefighter/paramedic in missouri and it was quicker to go straight to the wreck.....cost me 125.00 to fix and my extended warranty company covered the remaining 600.00 dollars theres gold in them balljoints...of course this was dealer prices too
Just replaced my first ball joint in '99 Ranger. Ford dealer said I had to buy control arms with them. Advance Auto Parts said different, sold me 2 b j's ($56.00 apiece), lent me all the tools and I got the new one in in just over two hours. Saturday I do the other one. The arm was more sturdy and solid when I held it in my hands than when I looked at it under the truck. Sure glad I didn't buy new arms.
