Slipping in 3rd and 4th doesn't happen very often at the same time but I'm wondering if its the torque converter clutch not engaging in 3rd and 4th that you are noticing.
Are the gears simply slipping only during the upshift, or will they slip under load after already in 3rd or 4th for a prolonged period of time?
Does operating temperature affect it at all?
Strange that it isn't throwing anything at you. This should normally put the trans in limp mode and allow a code retrieval.
Are there any recent changes you made to the truck or any servicing done? The more info the better even if it seems unrelated.
You could try chainging the fluid and filter if that hasn't been done within the last 50k miles. You can check the pan at the same time for metalic debris or black deposites coating the pan and exposed valve body (indicates fine metal shavings). Anything like that found in the pan and consider yourself warned that you are on borrowed time.
sounds familiar! Check out my posts on the e4od...burnt up on me but I still don't know the cause. Just spent $2000 on a tranny rebuild and it went back to the shop the same night. Now it has the abs light and the brake light on. Slipping around 30-40 mph...kinda searching for what gear it should be in
