I blew my tranny the other day and have to rebuild. Any of you guys ever rebuilt an E4OD? I ordered the rebuild manual for that transmission and NAPA sells the Master rebuild kit for around $225. Any tips or tricks from someone who has done this before would be great.
I would advise a large drain pan and a decent set of snap-ring pliers. Also, a couple cardboard boxes to set your parts in will help. Make sure to note the order of parts you took out, as this will help to get everything back together correctly.
I don't know much but I have been told two things. Keep every part of the transmission and the work area immaculate!!!! I have been told than ANY dirt can be catastrophic. Also when you finally get the tranny back together, remember to index the torque converter properly. That, if you don't know means to make sure the torque converter clicks three times when you are sliding it onto the input shaft, use a straight edge and line it up with the bell housing to make sure that the torque converter is not sticking out at all, a chilton's manual explains this. Also, make sure to use the upgraded parts for that tranny www.baumannengineering.com has some great tips and info on E40d's. Good luck.
Alex that whole three clicking thing sounds like something that was forgotten by one of my friends Now that he knows its great he's telling others..........
