zerfetzen,

Great info! Thanks for your time and effort - I learned alot. I don't own a high boy but maybe some day. I will send this to my son so he will understand why he should not refer to our 78 F150 as a high boy.

Mark

You're missing a digit

the Vin # is 11 characters long

you posted 10

I'm going to assume you left off one of the lat 5 numbers since the first five..jive

Therefore, your truck is a High boy

It a depends on the chassis, is it early or a late model? And is your xfer case connected to your transmission, meaning directly bolted together, if it is I would say no HighBoy.

Sorry if that is not what you want to hear.

Although Highboys were taller than other trucks, the suspension
was not lifted. The front suspension did not have a lift block, and was
taller to accommodate the divorced transfer case. The rear suspension had
a block between the axle and leaf springs to lift the rear of the truck,

So if i tried to take the springs from a high boy and put the on my 79 f-350 in an attempt it lift it, only the rear would get lifted?

I noticed that you say that the hi-boy frames are only 4x4 models... i'm not arguing this..... i am currently converting my 77 f250 cc 2x4 into a 4x4 and my 2x4 frame has the exact frame as a 4x4 with the exception of: the front crossmember (where the leafs are mounted, compared to the 2x4 component mounting crossmember), as well as the crossmember where the transfercase is mounted, where my crossmember held a hanger bearing. Maybe being a crewcab, they didn't make two different frame rails, because mine had all the holes in the front of the frame to bold that front crosmember right in place. i have both a 77 4x4 F250 RC and 77 2x4 F250 CC (now a 4x4...)... just food for thought. excellent post!!! great info!

The hi-boy front springs are arched instead of flat like the lowboys...i have heard of people swaping in earlier springs to get there front up, but as far as ther rear, the spring mounts on the frame are different. the hi-boy mounts are for 2 1/4" spings and are short (don't hang below the frame) and the lo-boys are for 3" springs and hang below the frame.

Hi 77_crew, best of luck with the conversion! I think the difference is that there are non-highboy 4x4's, which may have the same frame as a 4x2, though with a small exception (the absence of the front crossmember), the modified highboy frame also occurred on F-350's, probably both 4x2 and 4x4.

At least that's my understanding...

Is this VIN a Highboy??

I'm looking at what is listed as a 1977 F250 Highboy for sale and would like to just make sure that it is indeed a highboy. The VIN is: F26HCY00775. It has a 351 engine with a 4 speed transmission. It's a really sharp looking truck and i've wanted one of these for a long time.

After looking though this post i feel confident that it is a Highboy but if any of the knowledgeable people can confirm this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!

It's not considered a "lift" per se because that's a highboys factory ride height, it's not an aftermarket lift kit, it rolled off the assembly line with a chassis that rode approximately 4" higher.
