I hoping someone can help me out with this question. I have a neighbor that is selling a bed that looks like it must have come off a 60-61 ford pickup. My question is, would this bed fit my 56 ford pickup my original needs some metal work on it and I just figured it would make more sense if I just swap beds. Can this be done. Thanks for your help and responses.
I would ask how much your neighbor is selling his bed to you for. If it's more than a couple hundred dollars, I'd take a pass. You can buy all the parts you need to replace bad metal fairly inexpensively, all brand new.
Thanks for the answers on pickup bed differences. I gues my next obvious question is, if the fenders will be sitting 2" higher what would i have to do to have them fit correctly. i am street rodding this truck and will probably be sitting pretty low. Has anyone done this kind of bed swap.
You'll have to redrill all the fender holes on the bed sides to move the fenders down where they'll match up with the running boards. Now you've got an extra set of holes above your fenders that show. If you try to weld them shut, the heat will warp your sides badly. There's no winning that game. This is why I asked what kind of an investment are you planning to make in this deal?
