undefined undefined Hey guys. Don't know if you remember me building a 1956 F100 back in Sept. of 2002. Well got it done June 2004 & had a great time with it Hot August Nights Reno. First time out I got best lowered class at the Fernley Truck Inn Show last June.
However I do have a problem maybe someone can help me with.
I have a Volarie front suspention with a 383 Big Block with shorty headers. The problem is the left header is sitting on the sreering gear box & heating up the power steering fluid. I have wrapped the header & still having the problem. Anyone out there know of a smaller steering box that will fit on the Volarie suspention?
Ok, the problem isnt the header or the steering box....It is the combination of putting a Chevy engine into a FORD body. This is strictly taboo! I'm sure it looks GREAT and the chev motor probably runs nice too....But to do this whole thing RIGHT, you have to put in a FORD engine into a FORD body. Just my $.02 worth. Have you thought about putting a cooler onto the pump? Similar to a trans cooler, but for the power steering pump.
You could do a block lift.. 1" spacer should give U the room U need to clear every thing and a 1/2" spacer on the tranny would keep everything inline so U should have no problems with the drive line. And for the people out there that mixed up a 383 with a chevy.. well last time I looked a 383 was a mopar engine...

If you know your engines you will know a 383 Big Block is a Mopar not a chevy. I took out the chevy & gave it to the scrap yard. Bad mix chevy in a ford although everyone is doing it.

Good idea however there is no room between the floor boards & the tranny for any spacers.
hey now.. lets not trash someone choice of engines.. I myself have put all types of engines in all types of trucks.. Its all on what a person wants.. Some love chevy, others ford, and a few like mopar.. I say as long as it runs and looks good.. go for it.. And as for no room.. sounds like its time to make the room.. It is the easyest way to go.. A 4 pound hammer should make fast roon for the tranny

I have no problems with Chevy engines. Everyone has one or two laying around. There cheep to build & parts are easy to find. However I wanted Mopar because they have lots of power without stroking & buying after market bolt-ons like you do a small block Chevy to make em run. I just wanted to be different.
Let me see here, yes, I know that a 383 is typicaly a mopar engine. I also know that the typical hot rodder puts a small block chevy engine into their hot rod. Usually, when people put in a small block chevy, they stroke it to....383 cubic inches! I simply read too fast and missed the part that said "big block". My mistake. Now as for putting a mopar engine into a ford...thats a mind boggler. Your choice, not mine...I guess thats what makes us all different. At least your half way home and not driving a vehicle that says "get out of my way" on the front.(dodge) I would try the cooler first if it were me, but it's kinda putting a bandaid onto a broken arm. Good luck with the steering box. Flaming River may have some that are smaller.
Cooler didn't help. theres about 1200 degrees from the header. The metal on the steering box is pretty thick & I might get away with grinding some away.
My 390 left header sits close to the box but I haven't had any problems. Cooler sounds like a possible option. In your pick of the truck you mentioned aug 04, but it was 02 when you purchased the truck. Though that was a quick build. Looks good.
poolpro51, what you have there is a Fopar. It looks great though. It is a shame the Plymouth Volare was such an ugly car. Everyone uses it's parts for everything.
